Hopefully this won't get deleted, but just seeking advice.

Played football tonight and managed to stub my toe badly in a tackle, the pain forced me off the pitch for about 5 mins but then I carried on the game best I could, now I'm home the pain is constantly in my toe and it has become bruised. Is there a way of telling if its broken? I can bend the whole toe slightly but not the other 'bending' bit.

See diagram below...

Could it be broken or badly bruised? Either way I think I'm off to Doctors tomorrow...

I've done that twice and each time it was broken. Go to the hospital to make sure though, as your doctor is likely to send you there anyway. Playing on probably didn't help it much, get some ice on it to keep the swelling down if you have any.

To tell if its broken:-
Usually (not always) it will get very swollen/red/hot. When you try to bend it using your hands it will usually (not always) grind/scrape.
If you go to A&E they will probably X-ray it then if it is broke will maybe give you a paracetamol and send you on your way or tape it to the next toe and send you on your way.
When I broke my finger I decided to wait and go to A&E the next day for 2 reasons:
1 - to avoid the evenings alcohol related accidents and
2 - cause I work at the hospital anyway so popped in early before work.

Best bet would be to go to A&E as mentioned the doc will probably send you there anyway...They don't pplaster it for obvious reasons but will probably just strap it with the toe next to it if it is broken, shouldnt take long to heal :)

Was broken like. Hopefully won't be out too long :(

Mine healed in a few weeks, just keep weight off it when you can and don't kick a ball for at least two weeks. It should heal up fairly quickly that way.
