Broken cpu cooler

Hello there I have been having trouble with my cpu cooler (Corsair Hydro H80) It keeps revving then dropping again every couple of seconds and it is not under load just on the desktop it even does this when on bios the cpu temperature is at 27 degrees I was wondering maybe my cpu cooler is broken or faulty ?

Here is my system spec:
Microsoft windows home premium
Corsair professional series AX1200 80 Plus Gold power supply
Crucial real ssd 128 Gb
Seagate barracuda 1Tb HDD
PNY geoforce GTX 580
COrsair vengance 8Gb DDR3
ASUS P8Z68-V
Corsair Hydro H80
Intel core i7-2600K Overclocked at 4.5 Ghz
Coller Master HAF x

Any help or insight would be Appreciated

Thank you but i was hoping for some insight in to why it was doing this i am not 100 percent sure it is a problem with the cpu cooler or the motherboard

^ and how is that meant to help anything?

firstly, that is for 1366, not 1155

and secondly, that isnt giving him an answer of why the thing keeps revving up and down

personally, i think it is the pump that is going, but i;d be tempted to stop each fan individually and listen if it is a fan that is making that noise

Yes it is definitely the cpu cooler that keeps revving and as i said in the post there dosent really seem to be an explanation because it is not under load its not running anything I am bemused somewhat.

Don't know much about these coolers, but where have you plugged the power lead.

Sounds like it could be plugged into the cpu fan header and PWM enabled, (think it needs to have a continuous 12v).

Yes the power lead is plugged in ti the fan header But PWM is not enabled

Try the pump connected direct to the psu, (you may need a 3 pin fan to molex adapter). Or alterntively, connect it to the PWR fan header, on asus boards this fan header supplies a constant 12v.
