I think the USB controller has gone kaput in a Lacie external drive, if I crack it open and put it in a PC would I still be able to get the data from it?

Ok I have a serious issue, the mobo only had 2 SATA ports and with 1 HDD and 1 DVD drive already how do I connect the other SATA HDD?

Do SATA -> IDE converters exist? Don't want to get a PCI controller card due to cost and lack of slots. Didn't now it wasn't a full form factor mobo.

Help please

Thought of a PCI SATA card, but the GFX card was blocking the port.
My friend whose PC it was is going to Uni soon so wanted it done. Went to a local store got a IDE DVD drive then used its power and SATA connection for the other drive.

Job done.
