Hey all, wondering if anyone could offer some advice.

I got a western digital 1tb hard drive and it has suddenly stopped working.
When you plug it in it spins up but windows shows a message saying "this harddrive must be formatted before using".

I tried formating it but it jst come up "not responding" after a few minutes.
I really dont want to lose all my photos videos ect but would prefer it working.

Would it be the logic board???

You tried formatting it but you don't want to lose your data? I can spot something wrong there! lol

Have you tried it in another computer?
How old is it?

Its been broken for a few weeks so after trying in other computer and using other wires ect i tried the format to see if it would still work after even though i would lose everything.
TBH i jst want it workin again so i can use it to store my videos ect.

If you just want it working again to store things I would highly recommend buying a new one!

By the sounds of it, its gone. did you notice anything before it stopped working completely? failed copying to the drive? strange noises?

Even if you get it working again, after a scare like that I don't think I would trust it again even just to store music and movies on :(
