Broken HDD SATA plastic end bit.

Sorry for the title not sure of the name.

My stepdad was swapping HDD's and broke the L shaped clip for the SATA Data. Cable won't stay in at all now. Would it simply be a case of buying any old desktop HDD with the same ports and swapping the plastic bits over? Or does it need to be the same make of HDD?

The sata connectors are soldered to the pcb and will need to be removed and a new connector soldered back on. It's tricky if you don't know how to solder.

If you still have the broken piece try sticking it back on with superglue. It might be enough to get the drive working so you can copy the data off it.
