Hi all, I'm after some advice about the best way to get my iPhone repaired or replaced.

It's a 16gb 3g model if that makes any difference.

The problem is that silent switch on the phone appears to be playing up, if it's set to silent, a tiny amount of pressure in the top left of the phone cause it to flick rapidly between silent and loud. This is particularly annoying when it happens in my pocket.

How would I go about getting it replaced in the quickest way possible?

I can get to an apple store quite quickly, but I don't have the warranty details or box with me up at uni, and it's not easy to get hold of them. Will the store even talk to me without this?

If I'm unlikely to get any results through the store, what are my other options? The phone is only a few (3 or 4 I think) months old, so should be covered by warranty.

In advance thanks for your time. :)

Just put your serial number into the apple store, it will tell you how lnog you have left :)

I know it should be within warranty, I was just wondering if the Apple shop is likely to replace it there and then, or if they'll take it away for a week or so to repair. Also if not having the receipt or warranty details will make any difference in store. :)

If you take it in the apple shop they will replace it there and then, i did this the other week

Did you buy it from an o2 store or the apple store? In my experience o2 stores will return them to apple or their repair centre for repair. I cant really be without my phone, if i take it to the apple store will they give me a replacement?

It doesn't matter where you bought it from, if you take it to an Apple store with an easily diagnosable fault then they'll just swap it out. I bought mine from an O2 store and it's been swapped by Apple.

Will the fact the back of mine is covered in key scuffs etc matter? my mute key is away too, and i use it quite a bit!

My 2G has this problem too, I've always thought they wouldn't touch it because its ~18 months old, but someone told me because its a design fault, then they might do something for me. What are my chances like if I go and see a Genius?
