Broken Sword 5 ( 2D ) - Thread

If you've played all the others and you're a fan of the series should you buy it?
Well for £15.19 for the 1st part, and the 2nd part coming later for free, my answer is buy it. I've seen some people quabbling over the price, seriously £15 it's nothing. If you're new to the series you won't like the game as you won't understand what the fuss is all about, especially with textures and how the game looks.

Without revealing too much in the game, I'm about 35% in to the game,
There's been once occassion where I haven't looked properly and missed something that hung be back for hours. The graphics are great reverting back to the hand drawn like the originals, I have concerns in that the audio levels for the voice acting is a little rough in sound quality and sometimes too loud then quiet. Another concern is that the older broken swords if you put the mouse to the edge of the screen it would then bring up more places to walk, but it seems everything is concentrated more on the background that you can see, (hard to explain but just feels like it's more restricted and compacted down.)

It's too early to give a full opinion of the game so far, some puzzles lacked the cleverness of say broken sword 1/2. But when you're stuck for a few hours and then you work it out, that ''ooooooh you ****** thats why'' ! then you smile and crack on with the game.

Anybody know when hd pack is out? looks absolute garbage atm in 1440p.

Quote from Charles Cecil on the latest Developer Diary email I received for being a Kickstarter backer (Sent on 3rd December):

The resolution will be 720p to ensure that the game works on as wide a range of hardware as possible – we do plan to offer a free downloadable pack with 1080p resolution assets soon.

I'm going to wait till I receive my physical copy containing both Eps before starting the game, luckily I have plenty of other games courtesy of the last Steam sale to keep me busy.

How are people finding the puzzles? My mate has completed the first part already, so I'm guessing they are nowhere near as hard as the first 2 games? :(.

I remember being stuck on a couple of the BS1 and 2 puzzles for a good few days. It was great before I had the internet as I couldnt just cave in and look at a walkthrough :D.

Depends how you play it, hints are on as default, I however turned them off before starting.

"We are hugely excited, but also slightly sad, to be coming into the final few weeks of development of Broken Sword 5 – the Serpent’s Curse: Episode 2 on PC/Mac/Linux.

The remaining speech has been recorded in English, German, and French. Spanish and Italian are close behind. Russian text is mid way through translation. And things are ramping up for the final push as we approach the countdown to release.

We are implementing and refining the final animations, remaining sound effects and end music, fixing logic bugs, ensuring that the facial expressions match the delivered speech, and so on.

Quite reasonably, people have been asking for a definitive release date – something that we have avoided giving because it is so hard to know exactly how long these final stages will take. Quality is our top priority, and we don’t want to release the game before it is ready. We stated that Episode 2 on PC/Mac/Linux would be available by the ‘end of the first quarter’, i.e. the end of March, and we are still aiming to achieve this.

I am really pleased with Episode 2. As you would expect, the pace is faster, and the scenes more dramatic, as our heroes race to the conclusion. We have had more time than normal to mould the core themes into the gameplay. I so hope that you will be as excited by these ideas as I am. You will meet some familiar characters including Pearl and Duane, and George will encounter a formidable foe…

We are close to releasing Episode 1 on Android so watch out for more on this very shortly. And we are delighted that Sony Computer Entertainment America will be publishing the game on PS Vita in North America and Canada. So we can confirm that both will be available fairly soon.

The shredded letter puzzle bug in the iOS version, in which a piece of paper can sometimes be lost, has been fixed – an update will go out later this week.

We will let you know once the release date for Episode 2 is finalised. The wait won’t be long..." - Charles

Part 2 will be released today at 6PM BST according to their facebook page.
I was not expecting it until the end of the month or with more delays, that was really out of the blue :D so excited.

Now to play from the start again to try keep my memory in check or wing it... hmm.
