Broken timing Belt.

Many petrol engines are non-interference, its extremely unlikely for a Diesel engine to be non-interference due to the high compression required.

.

Actually the vast vast majority of petrol engines are interference too, some of the limp fiat engines are supposedly non interference but I have seen one which did just tweak a couple of valves.

Had mine done yesterday, I did take the mick abit as I did 85k on the belt, which is naughty.
The belt was still like new, no wear at all, tensioner was still good. the smaller tensioner had a little play, but not much, water pump was fine the hyd tens damper was pretty soft though.
So all in all I guess I was lucky.

As a quick update I spoke to the garage today and no luck on the car running with just a new belt kit :(. Garage recons its likely to have around 4 valves bent, with no damage to pistons etc.. although I've no idea how he would come up with that.

Will find out for sure when he get the head off.

Oh well thats my cheap option out the window :( (actually the really cheap option was me doing the work, however that might have cost more in the long run with me bodging it up :D)
