Hi there, so this morning i wake up and go to boot up my computer.

Vista starts to boot, and after the small scrolly thing moves across the page, where normally the password box would appear, nothing.....

So i leave it and still nothing. i don;t really know whats causing this. i suspect maybe hard drive failure? as i am now booting off an old xp hard drive. however i can still access the vista drive from this install.

Either that or maybe it is the vista install that has been corrupted or somehting.

Does anybody know what the problem could be. Many thanks tom.

How long did you leave it on "nothing"? Reason I ask is that a couple of times I've booted and had to wait a good 2-3 minutes before I got the Vista startup sound...

just left it on for about 15 mins still nothing. If it is my hard drive failing, is this likely as i can still access all the files from my xp hard drive. So i'm worried that if i try to repair the vista install it somehow might destroy the drive completley and then i'd lose all my data. Worrying as i don;t really have any room to backup much.

What results came back from the HDD scan? Make of HDD? Go to the makers website and get a dianostic (sp?) tool?
