Brown Shoes

All of these are perfectly good outfits:

And absolutely every one of them would look a complete **** turning up to work like that, well done for proving the point :p

I was about the post the following and then read Osprey's post (which I entirely disagree with):

The Italians (who aught to know a thing about fashion) say you should only wear black to a funeral. Therefore, brown shoes are the only real option unless you're wearing trainers.

Brown shoes take a little more thought to pull off but it's worth it, black is just dull, safe, uninteresting.

Better to try and fail heroically than never try at all - that's my excuse for being a fashion disaster anyway :)

Wearing black suit/trousers with black shoes all the time makes you look like a boring, unimaginative plum.

There is nothing wrong with that at all for work.

He looks like your typical travelling 'client liaison' rep, whose job it is to come and visit you for a chat to keep up good relations but in reality is just an annoying jobend who wastes half an hour of your day.

The sort who think they look like the most trendy, hip professionals around but ultimately just end up looking like they've tried to turn a day at work into a fashion show.

90% of such people will have gelled hair, and a pair of sunglasses in their Audi A3 S-Line that are worn whatever the weather. Probably spends a lot of time at the gym and has a tribal tattoo on their shoulder.

Still not convinced it's a good look, sorry :p

We aren't critiquing the man's hairstyle and face, the outfit is a really nice outfit. The shirt and tie work well too.

You have some preconceptions about his job, car and lifestyle from that outfit? I would suggest you are not only in the minority but that I'd be surprised if anyone else would even make those conclusions.

What do you wear to work - out of curiosity?

Next you'll be telling me that it is acceptable to wear white socks to work because wearing black socks every day is mundane and insipid.

The preconceptions are quite obviously humorously exaggerated to make the point, but no, i'm not of the opinion that's a 'really nice' outfit, it just seems a bit too 'try hard' to me.

My office is fairly casual, I have a selection of various dark grey / black trousers, various coloured shirts and some complementing ties, with black shoes. That'd be my usual day to day attire, with a dark grey suit for anything that demands actual smart dress.

That does not look good at all.
You can get away wearing dark brown shoes with certain outfits (not suits). A lighter brown like those above look universally bad, unless they are boots and you live in New Mexico.

Depends on the brown and the rest of the clothes but of course brown shoes are OK. Life would be a bit dull if everyone wore black shoes!

You're entitled to your opinion, but no, brown shoes look horrible in a working environment. Wouldn't be caught dead wearing brown shoes in smart attire, especially with a suit, just screams 'I think i'm **** hot and dead trendy but in actual fact i'm annoyingly over confident and brash, with my head implanted firmly within my own rectum' :p

The point at which I elect to take fashion advice from reddit is the point at which I give up on life frankly :p

So you judge people by what they wear? ;) Nice :p
