Is there any web browser or even a firefox plugin that allows (now this is the best way I can describe it) 'excel style' split views?

What I mean is, there should be a handle at the edges of the scroll bar and draggin it will basically create a second view of the web page, but a view that doesn't move when the 'main view' is moved.

I thought of this when reading a mailing list in gmail, I read the message, by scrolling down, then I have to scrool back up to click 'older' . If I could split the view I could have the top view showing the 'older' link in a slither at the top of the screen, then use the main window to read the message. Then just click the link without needing to scroll back up.

No. I 'll check that plugin later, but I use opera all the time but I don't think it does it. Think of it as a duplicate VIEW of a tab/window. I.e. I click a link in the duplicate and both the original and the duplicate update. The major point being I can have the duplicate showing a specific part of a page, and use the main window for looking around the rest of the page. I thought Operas follow tab would do it but it doesn't really work like that AFAICS

Is this what you are trying to do?

Notice each of the split windows is of the same worksheet, or tab, but are scrolled to a different part of the page.

I have the feeling I've used something like it in a web browser before but can't for the life or me remember what or when.
As for gmail and long emails, probably easiest to click the new window button to load another gmail window, then use windows 7's drag to edge of screen feature to show the same thread side-by-side (different windows), job done but not as smoothly as it perhaps could be..

essentially, yes. If a web page has a nav bar at the top, I should just split the view onto the nav bar, and the rest of the page. No matter where I am on the page, I can still ascces the nav bar. When I click a link on the main page, the na bar updates with the nav bar from the new page. That's where opera follow tab fails.

This? It looks a bit more hopeful than any other add-ons but I don't want to have to restart my browser to test it out!
