Hi,

I've been handed a laptop, running XP, which seems to have problems rendering pages correctly - it seems to just not load certain images/bg elements.

Here for example is how it renders the MS website, in IE 7:

But the same is true for all sites. Gmail for example loses all the coloured tabs and just looks weird. The blinking | in any text forms is a solid black square too, which isn't right.

The problem is also the same across IE and FF. I've tried reinstalling both browsers, and resetting the Internet settings to default - but still the problem exists.

I've also run CCleaner, Adaware and also cleaned out the temp files and am now truly stumped - any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

It maybe your antivirus or firewall which is causing the issue. I would disable both and visit the site to check again.
I had a problem with nod32 v3 which caused this issue, but a simple reinstall of the antivirus package resolved it.

I reinstalled both browsers, and theres no plugins running or anything.

I've also disabled the AV, and still nothing...

Ah, sorted it..

I checked the Accessibitly settings in the control panel, and it was set to high-contrast.

Urgh, what a waste of 2 hours!

Thanks for the help though :)

LOL, didn't expect that to screw up the rendering of IE

Glad it's sorted though.

Yea its a new one on me too.. it's weird, as looking at the XP desktop you wouldn't have known it was even on. I just stumbled upon it...

Oh well! You live and learn
