We've been having a bit of an argument in work today, there a a couple of guys who believe that Bruce Lee is the Ultimate Fighter and could not be beaten, even by a heavyweight. Now there are some fans of the UFC and they/we argue that Bruce Lee would meet his match and be beaten if faced with for example a heavyweight champion.
At the moment the Bruce Lee fans dismiss all arguments as the believe that it would be a fair match to have Bruce Lee againt any weight or class as a) he would never be hit b) any hit would have the force taken out of it etc etc
What I'm looking for here is someone who actually understands the Martial Arts to outline some points that would actually convince the Bruce'iacs that he could be beaten.
At the moment the Aguments for Bruce is
1) He was extremely fast and therefore avoid all contact
2) His famous 1" punch shows good power
3) Various Strength demonstrations, holding weight, pressup etc
Arguments against :
1) Martial Arts have actually "evolved" since Bruce's days.
2) Paired against a larger, equally dedicated, trained and strong opponents would have Bruce at a disadcantage ie they don't pair Lightweight boxers against Heavy weights for a reason!
3) Where is his Fight record, how can you class someone as the greatest without a record to back it
4) How would he cope if the fight turned into a grapling/floor fight. There are reports that he was chocked into submission a few times in unofficial fights
5) How much of his reputation is Movie Myth
6) The weights in the Gym don't fight back and the pre-sequenced fights are hardly an example of realworld fighting.
Interested to hear what you think.
