In the case of Die Hard:

I actually don't get all the hate for Die Hard 4. Yes, it's nowhere near as good as the first two (or even 3) but it's not bad at all for a modern take. If you want to see a bad modern take, try the fifth one.

Yeah, but before the 5th one existing, the 4th one was an embarrassment.

5 has done some really good PR for 4.

I loved die hard 4, which is rare for remakes/continuations of old films.

It's obvious in Die Hard 5 they're writing him out

By bringing his son into it sorting out their differences and end up blowing **** up together and that his son 'can handle himself'. It's just so obvious they're writing him out which will mean I stop watching it.
