Hello,

I'm wondering if there are any qualified bsl interpreters on the forum asI have a few questions. My brother is trying to become qualified, but it seems quite hard to pinpoint the training needed and salary figures. My questions are:

1. I imagine that demand is area dependent, but in general how is the demand for interpreters?

2. What sort of hourly rates do fully qualified interpreters charge?

3. How long will the training be from newbie to fully qualified (level 6??)

Anything else that you can tell me about this career would help me out a great deal.

Thanks for listening.

My fiancee is currently going through BSL training at the moment. I'll ask her later tonight :)

----- She wasnt sure on the demand, but would guess its quite high
2. What sort of hourly rates do fully qualified interpreters charge?
----- Roughly between £60-80ph (dependant on role)
3. How long will the training be from newbie to fully qualified (level 6??)
------ Several years, she mentioned college does up to Level 2, possibly 3, but Uni is required for Level 6

Anything else that you can tell me about this career would help me out a great deal.

Thanks for listening.
