Hey guys after overclocking my Q6600 like this:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17934221

I woke up this morning to see this on my screen:

Anyone think they know what is going on? How can this be corrected?

Can you post screenshots of stuff like cpu-z, coretemp etc etc so we can narrow it down?

Bluescreen is usually RAM problem, from personal experience

Hi there are screen shots of them both in my link to the other post.

It did crash again so
I've just set the memory to 1033 instead of 1333 and will see if that helps.

when it came back into windows I got this never seen this before:

A BSOD like that is typical of an unstable OC, have you upped the CPU voltage, did you run any tests such a prime or orthos?

I didn't touch the CPU voltage but I did change the DRAM voltage to 1.7 a very long time ago.

I did run orthos when I had another problem but that was my memory timings
this has only started since yesterday when I overclocked my Q6600.
There is obviously something I need to change in the BIOS

Is 1.7V enough or too much for DDR3?
How about what you see for my CPU?

Not only have I upped the CPU but I also upped the memory. Since I've changed the memory from 1333 to 1033 it has been fine

I plan to go back change it to 1333 I see my current VID is 1.3250
what shall I set it to in the BIOS? 1.4?

Overclocking isnt an exact science, if you want a stable system you really need to start using memtest and othos everytime you think you've settled on a stable overclock. Orthos isnt just a 20 minute thing either, really you need to leave it overnight to really make sure everything is rock solid before you start trusting it with your time/data. Its all about pushing it to its limits and then making sure its a reliable as a stock setup. Its a bit of a balancing act between fsb, memory timings, voltage, temp etc. You just need to start ruleing things out and probeing the components tolerances with plenty of stress testing in between.

thanks it has got me thinking I also reckon you will need a bit of pen and paper quite possible pictures of the BIOS to actually remember all the settings that got it to be stable.

Yeah, start that way, once youve got some experience under your belt you will get a feel for it and a bit of instinct to help you along. you clearly have quite a good chip, so just keep trying things, as long as you dont get too hot or too high vcore you cant really cause any damage. Just dont have your only copy of anything important on that pc till youve found a rock solid overclock.
