This is a continutation of another of my threads. Thought I'd make a new one because the problem has changed since the original thread and it'll just be a lot less confusing.

Here is the sytstem I've just built.

- Antec NSK 4480 Mini Tower Case (Silver) - 380W Earth Watts PSU
- Intel Core 2 Duo E2200 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.20GHz
- Samsung SH-S203D 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
- Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H GeForce 7100 Micro-ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
- OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2

When I boot up the computer and start to install Windows XP it gets to the first part where it says 'Setup is loading files' and after that it says 'Setup is loading Windows' and then the screen goes blue and I get that message that tells you the computer has been shut down to prevent damage. The error code is - 0x0000007b (0xf78d2524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000
The error code may not have been the same, but I had something very similar to this happen with my last build. The difference being that the crashes would come at random times, but mostly during gaming. In this case the crash comes at exactly the same part each time, just as 'Setup is loading Windows'. With my last build the problem was my MSI motherboard didn't like running my GeIL RAM in dual channel. Obviously with this in mind my first thought was to try each stick of RAM, one at a time. Unfortunately no luck, although the first time I did it the error code did change slightly - 0x0000007b (0xf79e3524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000

I've tried running a scan on my hard drive and no errors were found. I also ran memtest through twice and again no errors were found. I've also, of course, looked inside my PC to check all connections are in firmly and nothing has come loose.

Is my PSU definitely up to the job? When I posted round on other forums asking for advice with my previous problem a few of them pointed to my PSU being 'inadequate'. Slightly dubious of that though because I've had people adamant my PSU is the problem when I've had PC troubles before and it's turned out to be nothing to do with the PSU. Also the spec I built was recommended to me from an established member on here.

Really stumped as to what could be the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

I would say the psu more than enough power for that rig. Those Antec Earthwatts are decent little psu's. I have the same psu in my second pc with a similar spec to yours apart from it's a 7150 motherboard and a E4300 @2.5Ghz.

This could be a problem due to the sata dvdrw. Is this an old copy of XP, ie, before sp1? If so it will not work without the sata drivers, floppy disk and F6 when prompted. I don't know if it will work with a sata drive even if you use a floppy. Do you have a IDE dvdrw drive you can try installing from? Have you set everything up in the bios correctly? Double check your cables too. Just in case.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

As far as I know it's quite an old version of XP, but not before SP1.

I have an IDE DVDRW in this computer which I shall try.

I don't have a floppy drive so I can't trying install the Sata RAID drivers, and even if I did I don't have a floppy with those drivers on!

I'm no PC exper so I'm not sure if the settings in the bios are correct, although I've had a little mess around.

And yeah, checked the cables a few times now. :(

If you have a USB stick i think you may be able to do it from that. The drivers will be on the disk that came with the mobo or from the manufacturers website. On the disk it should have something like "make disk" listed. I have just had a look around the internate and it seems that the error code is when XP cannot see the hard drive. In the bios you need to set the boot order so initially you set the dvdrw to be the boot drive. When XP reboots to continue installing it should automatically detect the files it has written to the hard drive and continue installing. Sometimes, depending on motherboard, this does'nt happen. When it reboots to carry on installing hit F8 or Del (depending on motherboard and manufacturer) and enter the bios and set it to boot from the hard drive as all the setup information is on there now. Save and exit and hopefully it should work. I still think it's to do with the sata drivers though.

UPDATE

Okay so I tried my IDE hard drive in the new build and I got past the crash screen! However as it moves on to the next part of the setup it stops and says,

'Setup did not find any hard disks installed on your computer' then tells me to check that it's connected properly and suggests I install any hard disk related drivers.

So, for some reason it's just not detecting that my hard drive is connected. I'm hoping that buying a floppy drive and installing the SATA RAID drivers will solve this, or perhaps updating the bios.

Thoughts?

It is what i originally said then. It needs the sata drivers so it can "see" the hdd. There is another way around this though. You could slipstream the XP installation with Nlite and add in SP2 and then it should work. No need to buy a Floppy then. It's easy enough to do. See here . It's free too so it's worth a try. 1.41 final is the one you want i think. Full guide is in the link too.
