A friends pc gets this BSOD every now and again. He doesn;t do anything to trigger it off, it just seems random. The error from the event log is as follows:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000007e (0xc0000005, 0xff4e91b9, 0xf5b57c78, 0xf5b57974). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini082708-01.dmp.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Can you try and advise me on how to fix this?

Thanks

Regards,
Neil

Personally thats what i would do too but I can;t as it is someone elses computer and that is just not an option. Is there a way to find out what caused it and to solve the issue.

Good place to start with BSOD's also is drivers/software. So has anything been installed recently? OR, update the, sound, graphics, chipset, directx files and do a Windows update. Also run some general cleanup tools such as Windows Disk Cleanup, CCleaner and do a defrag. If that doesn't help at least it may speed up the PC a bit. :)

The first hit from google suggest it could be Symantec/Norton. However that was after looking at the Minidump file.

Try googling "BSOD 0x1000007e" and have a read of some posts see if anything looks relevant. :)

That stop code I am perfectly accustomed with. Check that it's not a driver issue (update them) and try turning DEP off and see if that helps.
