Hi all, Been a while since i last visited... So i hope this is in the correct subforum.

This problems got me truely stumped.
So hopefully someone can help before i wipe/ fresh install.

I want to play RA2 (red alert 2) on my system,
However, the game keeps causing BSOD's... I think.
sometimes installing, sometimes at the start screen, sometimes 10 minutes into a game.

I think There BSOD's ( the game freezes, playing a short sound loop, screen goes fuzzy - no responce from keyboard/ mouse)

Specs are:
Q9550 oc'd to 3.8
8gb ocz pc6400
2x HD5770
windows7 pro

So far i have:
Updated all drivers, removed OC, set game compatibility to xp mode, ran windows mem diagnosics (unlimited passed overnight)
Checked gfx temps, cpu temps, passed intel burn test fine.

After thinking it must be a dodgy game, i tried to play RA3 (which used to run fine) this also crashed in the same manner.

Now im stuck for ideas.
Any help appreciated.

Cheers

If you got a BSOD, you probably got some kind of error message on your screen, and you probably also got a crash dump. Check your windows folder for a memory.dmp or minidump and host it somewhere, along with the details of the crash, and post it here. They usually zip quite nicely.

WhoCrashed said:
On Sun 10/10/2010 17:51:30 your computer crashed
This was likely caused by the following module: hardware
Bugcheck code: 0x124 (0x0, 0xFFFFFA800832A028, 0xB2000040, 0x800)
Error: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
Dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\MEMORY.DMP

Doesn't mean a thing to me :P People out there can anaylse dumps well though, not sure if it ever gives a answer; just possibilities (my experience in the last) I've always gone to http://www.techsupportforum.com/mic...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Worth a try. Though response can be slow (well few days) hell you might as well do a memtest86 over night aswell really

Worth a try. Though response can be slow (well few days) hell you might as well do a memtest86 over night aswell really

i already started a memtest86+.. left it running for 3-4hours.. but wasnt sure how many passes it would do, so escaped and carried on.
Does it just run infinate?
cheers

Yep it will go on forever. I think I leave mine on for like 9 tests or so. Though my last memory I sent back, i started test and got 1000s of fails within seconds :p Though the longer the better.

I've had umm 3 or 4 periods of BSOD's since I built my computer last September, talk about annoying! Since my last RAM RMA (thank god its unlimited warranty ;) 3rd set of RAM lol.
So far so good :D

Hope JcGriff gets on the case :D Don't know if its his job or like a voluntary thing; surely not as it must take a while, lots of posts, lots of analysing. Just from looking at the report.html there's so much information there! But just from the WhoCrashed I did earlier its something hardware related so mm

I'm sorry, I slept through yesterday and didn't check this thread.

It's a CPU error, looks like it's caused by an Intel stress tester that is running.\

Do you have this going in the background for some reason?

http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-math-kernel-library-linpack-download/

It could be you just happened to be running that app last time it crashed, though. If that's the case, check to make sure all your memory is of the same type and speed, and be sure the bus speed is configured correctly for everything in the BIOS. It may be as simple as a mismatch.

Hi -

I ran 16 of the most recent dumps with timestamps from 13 Oct - 16 Oct 2010.

Just so Raist can take a look at JcGriff2 response (MVP)
He has a different memory dump than I received?

Even so, it is a standard tech response to tell a user to update firmware and drivers. Though I don't disagree with doing so, these are very general recommendations and may not address a specific issue. I'd roll with his recommendations, but would like to know if that app is running on the background.

Ye he would have. He makes you do a system performance thing and makes you run a .bat file he made up. So lots of files for him to look at! It's his 'job'

Apparently some drivers just really don't work well, he said that my old netgear adaptor driver was terrible with W7 and he had seen multiple problems with that driver and BSODs. Always a good idea to have the most up to date drivers to be safe.

Wouldn't mind knowing how to do it myself tbh. (Analysing dumps)
