Hi All,

i have lately installed a Samsung 500GD EVO and a new Gigabyte 780, which are great. recently im have been getting a BSOD when rendering in 3dsMax and Corona renderer im working on a fairly heavy scene now and an wondering if it might be the virtual memory settings or something. i have set Samsung magician to Maximum performance. i have 12GIG or ram and it always dies near the limit.

before the upgrade to the SSD and Gcard i have rendered larger scenes with no bother. if any one has any ideas or things i could try i'd love to hear them.

i'll post up a crash report soon when it next dies

Thanks in advance

Paul

what happens if you undo max performance in magician tool? does it bsod then?

rapid mode might affect things also,so test with it disabled if enabled

Rapid mode is off and I just tried setting it to Max reliability in magician. This has had no effect still when I Max out the ram I get a bsod normally have chrome open and 3dsmax and rendering with corona. This never occurred when u had my old HDD and gtx295 graphic card. Any gurus out there who may be able to help?

is this what you mean?

i haven't removed the paging file to my knowledge, unless magician has done something to it?

magician might have disabled it,to check

To adjust page file settings:
Press the Windows + Pause Break keys > in the left pane click on Advanced system settings > click on the Advanced tab > in the Performance section click the Settings... button > click on the Advanced tab . click on the Change... button

see how much pagefile is reserved

I'd definitely run a MemTest and/or check your RAM settings are correct in the BIOS.

At facevalue assuming its not actually pagefile related its likely to be one of these:

-RAM malfunction (either failing or incorrectly setup)
-Problem with a USB, network or storage driver (try updating)
-A hardware controller/hub usually memory or northbridge or similiar depending on your setup either not having enough voltage to be 100% stable or overheating.

it could be the bios settings they are tweaked, to increase the voltage as before i was having problems seeing 12GB a friends gave me his brain and we adjusted it. im also on my second set of corsair Ram as in the first lot, one of the sticks failed.

it could well be down to using the marvell ports, they arnt the best for reliability, might help if you uninstall the marvell drivers and just use what windows installs

or test on the intel ports

with 12gb of memory how much qpi/vtt voltage is being used? for stability you might need anywhere from 1.35v to 1.4v

no not yet, i'd like to try and uninstall / update the marvell driver first. what the best way to do this?

i have deleted the Marvell controller and it did nothing, which is a pitty. so i have now moved that EVO over to the sata 2 port (slower!) which so far hasn't crashed ( touch wood ) i have yet to attached the other HDD though which could cause issues but i'm guessing it is the marvell ports, thx wazza!. ah well i guess i'll just have to wait till my next upgrade and a new motherboard, processor and 32gigs of RAM :) . thanks all i'll keep you posted if things aren't ok
