BSOD on boot up. Can someone help?

Sorry if it's the wrong place to post. My sisters laptop has BSOD on bootup, I can't get it to boot to command prompt, safe mode or last known good.

She switched it off in the middle of a chkdsk.

The file system is buggered. Not sure if you can fix that without reformatting actually.
Tried using an xp disc to do a repair install?

Yeah, I actually managed to get it to boot to an XP CD, tried chkdsk /r and it worked
