I have started to get random BSOD, on checking the event log i get the message that the error was in the service control manager.

On checking the properties the details offer:

The Windows Service Pack Installer update service service depends on the Security Accounts Manager service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it

Any ideas what this is telling me? I have sP3 installed if that could be the problem.

Cheers

usually when you get a bsod there is nothing written to the event log - you usually only see an entry written when the machine restarted saying the last shutdown was unexpected (or somethign like that)..

Unless the times of the error and the bluescreen match up id say its an unrelated issue.

I've run my anti virus (NOD32) and all the usual malware apps (Spybot, adaware, CCleaner) in safe mode and cleared everything out but things still seem unstable.

I'm now getting instances where IE7 can't find the web page and closes and random freezes in other programmes.

I think i should have mentioned i recently put 2GB (2 x 1GB) of new Ram in. I ran memtest86 on it over night and it passed three times so i think the ram is ok. i updated to the latest drivers and Bios. I'm running a NF7-s V2 with an athlon XP3000:eek:.

Could that be causing the problems?

I'm thinking of doing a fresh install and seeing if that helps at all.

Any other thoughts (sorry for the long post)
