Get the floppy version instead. or run prime95 stress test in windows
If i had a floppy drive on the comp then I would, but I build it thinking I would never need 1 of those ancient things, funny how things come round

Yeah I'd got rid of my floppy drive because I never used it, then after needing one a few times for various minor things I put one back in

Get prime95 instead then. http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

Once installed hit, just stress testing, options menu, torture test

would it be worth running memtest86 as an ISO on a CD? Is there anything that I can use to check that the hard drive isn't playing up?

i've had BSOD happen and the error messages are
"bad_pool_cooler" ,
"page_fault_in_nonpaged_area"

Run Memtest86 on a CD for best results, it's likely that it'll tell you what's wrong.

Chkdsk? It definetly sounds like a RAM error, but I suppose it could be HDD.
