BSODs when installing XP on a raid-0 array

I've just bought a pair of 36 gig raptors and want to reinstall with windows on a raid-0 array using the 2 drives.

I've set up the raid settings correctly in bios as far as I can see, and I can load the driver from a floppy that I need.
However before getting to choose where I want to install windows the computer bsods.

I'm completely lost as to what could be causing this. The bsod message says to use chkdsk to see how the discs are, and they both pass fine.

Any suggestions?
 
Asus P5B deluxe using the built in Raid controller.

Noticed you have the same board, you running raid on it?
Used the make disk function on the driver cd to create an "Intel ICH8 32bit Raid/AHCI driver disk"

Not sure what I could have missed
 
Yup - the 320G seagates are RAID 0. I just grabbed the most recently dated driver disk from the asus website. Seemed to go without a hitch. I'll have a look what version when I get home tonight.

Are you installing Vista or XP? I'm on XP - I haven't tried Vista. Also, have you definately set the right raid controller in the BIOS? (since there are 2... I'm sure you have, but worth askin' ;) )
 
It's also worth noting that if you have an upto date version of windows XP (assuming you are using XP), you won't need to load the third party drivers from diskette.. You could be using a corrupt/older version.

The set up is done via the RAID BIOS, but as said above, their are two.


There are plenty of RAID updates for that motherboard too.. Check you are using the most recent..

hi m8, ive the same drives/mobo and as you bsod at that particular piont.1 of the below fixed it for me ->
1.reset bios to default, but made sure the volts were all set maually(cpu-1.4v/ram* 2.1v),and as posted ,ide set to raid.
2.made another copy of raid drivers to new floppy
3. used a different floppy drive/cable + windows disc
...sorry for the many options,but im sure the ram just needed more v

Update to this, tried again earlier today.

Bios reset, different floppy disc, re-downloaded the drivers, slipstreamed them to an XP disc. Nothing works.

Think I'm gonna give up and hunt down a new motherboard.... :(

Did you read any of the previous posts :p

If your have an disk within the last few years, chances are that it will have SP1 or SP2 already integrated. In which case you don't need a third party SCSI/SATA diskette.

Simply reseting the CMOS maybe not enough.. You may need to flash both the BIOS and the RAID firmware. Check the manufacturers link above. Once updated, press F4 after POST to enter RAID menu.. then set as single disk array, raid-0 or raid 1 etc.. As a further precaution.. set your BIOS settings to SAFEST settings to make sure it not something else causing the BSOD.. just to eliminate other possible causes.

What?

That's total rubbish, for raid on xp even with sp2 you need raid drivers.

For single drive, yeah, it work out the box fine not raid though.

PinkFloyd, update to the latest bios after, take out the battery, short the reset jumper and come back after a coffee or something. Put the jumper back to normal and put the battery back in, set the system up as you need but at stock then setup the raid array, make a clean one.
Attempt, if failed get a P5K Deluxe :p

Apologies .. I was refering to a single arrary set-up. however, I still think he needs to update his BIOS/RAID firmware.

Its an SP2 disc and it doesn't work trying the drivers on the xp disc. Doesn't even detect the harddrives on the format screen, and bluescreens as soon as you hit a key at that point.
Your likely thinking of Sata support that is included on newer XP discs, not raid.

Gonna try the newest bios and see where that gets me later.

The Asus P5k deluxe looks nice, but I'm waiting for the DFI 680i board at the moment :D
 
Update, tried again with a new bios and everything reset to defaults. Still Bluescreens.

Just to wait for the new DFI board to be availible here in the UK, then I can decide between that and the P5k.
 
Well I've heard from a reliable chap in my msn contacts that these will be available soon here in the UK :)

Just hoping its the truth!

I miss having a DFI board :p
