I was just wondering if they had some sort of maps of confirmed areas that are going to get xyz and when or are they just gonna say as they feel?

What? You need to be more descriptive as I don't think you know what 21CN is about.

OK, so what are you asking? Timelines for WBC changeover and PSTN changeover are on Samknows, you just have to put your exchange / phone number / postcode in the search box.

WBC being Wholesale Broadband Connect (ADSL2+ services from BT) and PSTN switchover being the phone service moving to 21CN's IP network.

Pretty much everywhere will eventually get switched to 21CN - there are significant cost and network complexity wins as a result.

21CN PSTN switchover target: Q2 2009

Think they've missed the target date there!

Does this mean I can get ADSL2+ faster broadband once they enable that?

it wont make any difference to your speed, it just means that they're upgrading the exchange with new infrastructure.

EDIT: I jsut checked my line speed with BT on my number (we've just upgraded to C21 in my area.)

Code:
We have tested your line and can confirm your line supports the UK's most complete broadband package, BT Total Broadband. We estimate your current maximum connection speed to be 5.0Mbps.

Our faster Broadband service offering up to 20Mb will be available in your area from 31-March-2010! and we estimate your maximum connection speed will increase to 5.5Mbps.

Depends on your line but most people should see a difference moving from ADSL to ADSL2+. You can get a better idea of what speeds to expect by retrieving the line stats from your modem or router and putting them in a line speed calculator. There's info in the broadband sticky.

That may be because you live in a high broadband area or live a little bit away from your exchange I however live on the same street =]

21CN will have no immediate effect on any end users. 21CN focuses on the core of BT's network - it makes no changes to your phone line, nor does it require you to change any equipment in your home (e.g. phone, ADSL modem/router, wireless equipment).

21CN includes Wholesale Broadband Connect, BT's ADSL2+ offering and the subject of this thread. Most customers will see a speed increase moving to ADSL2+, again if and how much will depend on their line.

OK, what about exchanges with Be/O2 or Sky LLU gear in them which aren't yet 21CN WBC enabled? Users on these exchanges can utilise ADSL2+ and many have been for years.

So? I was clarifying for any readers that just because WBC isn't available on their exchange doesn't mean they can't get an ADSL2+ service. This is a fairly common misconception.

WBC is strictly a term for the new backhaul system, the actual access medium is fairly irrelevent and seperate. That BT will likely upgrade the DSLAMs around the same time to support ADSL 2+ is true however. In theory if FTTP ever got installed it could be backhauled to your ISP by WBC as well.

As an example my exchange is WBC enabled and has been for a few months, however I'm fairly sure they've not upgraded the DSLAMs yet as there's no way to order services beyond 8Mbit yet...
