BT ADSL Download speed increased but Upload is the same?

Typical small village here (my folks place) only half can get fibre, not our half, and we are a whopping 65 miles from the centre of London...

Anyway, in September of this year the download speed increased from 6Mb to 18Mb, which is nice, but the upload has stayed the same at 0.3Mb. I presume this is not a hardware limitation our end? And just the exchanges fault? They are using a standard Asus semi decent modem/router combo. ISP is Origin.

Looks like the upload target changed from 0.5Mb to 1Mb as our percentage has gone down :(

As a guess I'd say you moved from ADSL to ADSL2(+) but your upload scheme has remained at 448kbps.

ADSL2 should provide ~1Mbps speeds at a line length that provides 18Mbps.

Cool, but should provide? I know it should provide, so something is limiting it, anything that would be obvious hardware/setting/config wise?
I'll check the sync speed when I can.

Was a great speed bump out of the blue (10 years to late) but what can ya do?

Origin may need to release something on your upload. That is if the sync speed shows 448 or thereabouts.

It might also be that your line, while good for higher frequency download is not so good for lower frequency upload. ISP might suggest a filter change.

ok groovy, we are using one of the Pressac ADSL faceplates from eBay, so hopefully already covered in terms of a decent filter? Maybe it's a V2 unit, see that eBay now has V4 or 5 maybe for sale.

Can you login your router and copy/paste the stats?

It will have max down/up speeds, actual down/up speeds, SNR, attenuation etc.

According to your linked images you should be seeing the increased upload to match the increased download. The 'MAX Rate' is 1152 kbps and you're only getting 445 Kbps.

You'll need to speak to your ISP as it's most likely a configuration issue at their end.

Looking at that your ISP will need to change the line profile. Something has quite obviously changed allowing better speeds and it is odd the upload hasn't increased as well but your IPS should be able to give you more/better information.

Coincidentally the ISP is changing in 2 weeks, so it might do it itself! If not we'll be able to ring and sort it, think it is changing to PlusNet for what it is worth.
