BT and the Law

Everybody that isn't Virgin or a leased line provider will give you the same results as they all use the same checker.

I did think if I just get a VDSL MK3 faceplate and fit it myself, do they not only have to change something in the cabinet for me to get FTTC, surely it cant be that difficult, or is there more to it than that?

You need to be jumpered to an FTTC cabinet. Seriously if BTs systems are failing FTTC orders then there is nothing you can do other than prod your chosen ISP to take it up with them.

If there is no fibre cabinet in your area that can deliver FFTC, then you won't get FTTP.

BT have said I will get 300mbs fftp but they have been a nightmare to deal with. Fttc is available as is fttp but only recently and the expensive companies like Zen and idnet will do it, but for stupid money. Just don't get why sky and plusnet won't install

If you can get FTTP then you can't also have FTTC. Unless it's FTTP on demand.

You can get FTTC-grade services delivered over FTTP (so you could pick 40/10 if you wanted) but I don't know if all the ISPs are geared up to offer this.

Oh right I don't really get how it works. I was told when I placed the order an engineer would come round and do something in the house and I would get quicker speeds than now, think she said around 40mbs and then a few weeks later they will of dug up the pavement and fitted the cable but won't need access in my house and then I will have the full 300mbs available

I tried plusnet as they were cheaper than BT but they say I dont live in a fibre area :(

It's possible that where you live isn't in the trial area since FTTP through plusnet isn't available generally (however you should use the BT wholesale checker for your address to see if FTTP is actually available to you).

thats what it says, I assume that means I can get FTTP?

Seems to suggest you're on overhead cabling as well.

what does that mean  I was told they are going to be digging up the pavement for the Fibre. Or are you talking about my current ADSL connection?

I am hoping the engineer will put a whole new master socket in as currently the master socket is in the rear of the house, but the Fibre will be coming in through the front, at least I assume it will be.

The fibre may go under the road for some of its journey where it will join a DP (telegraph pole). From there fibre will go overhead to your house, replacing your current copper drop wire (or in addition to).

Oh right, well that sounds complicated, im assuming that I wont have any issues with quality because of it?
Just hope it doesnt take too long for them to get an engineer out to fit it. What sort of socket will I end up with via this route, a VDSL faceplate? if so I can fit that myself and save the home visit thing

It's fibre to the home, there is no copper. It's a cable through the wall into an NTE.

ok, im confused why I was told (this might just be my lack of understanding) if they had come out and done their job on Friday I would have had I believe 40mbs from them doing something in the house, and she said by the 11th of august they would have done something outside the house to make it 300mbs.

Who's telling you that?

The BT lady when I placed the order way back on the 6th July. She said there would be one visit (24th) where the engineer would need access to inside the property where they would do what needed doing and I would get the lower end of Fibre speeds, then there would be a second visit (before 11th aug) by the engineer which will not require them to enter my house, and this will then give me the full Fibre speeds.

I assumed from this they would just replace my faceplate and leave some cable outside the house to join up with and give me FTTC using my current copper cable until that was replaced and the addition cable connected. but from what im understanding from here that this is not the case so I am starting to feel I am being fed more lies from BT, which doesnt surprise me as this whole saga has been a farce.

If the checker is right and you're in an FTTP area then there's not a VDSL cabinet to connect you to.

Ok, im not sure where my cabinet is to check. So how exactly is FTTP installed? I get they will need to fit a new socket (I assume by replacing the whole master socket not just the faceplate) which will require entry to the house, but if this is completely different wiring, then does that mean I could be without phone or internet for 2-3 weeks whilst they do the rest of the work (which if it means replacing the current copper cable, that goes through my garden and the only access to that is through the house), or am I miss understanding the process?
The other issue is the master socket is in the rear of the house, meaning wifi doesnt stretch to the rooms I actually need it in, so I currently have the HH5 coming off a different socket, which I understand you cant do with FTTP it has to connect to the master socket?
