BT Apprenticeship Interview Issues

Hi all,

I have been invited to attend a hub day for an interview for a Telecoms Engineer roll as a BT Apprenticeship.

My only problem is the job requires a full driving license (no mention of it being clean) but I have recently got 6 points on my license following this thread:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18207726

Now I am looking to get back in for my test asap as I am not banned or anything but my interview is on the 25th of Jan and they have asked specifically for me to bring along my full uk driving license and paper license.

When I applied for the job and was even told about the interview around a month ago I had a clean license and it has only been recently that I now have 6 points and my license has been revoked.

I dont know what to do,

Was thinking I should maybe just go to the hub day, dress smart and try and explain my situation but I dont know if I will just be turned away at the door because I dont have the required documents?

Obviously the position wont be to start straight away so I was hopeful that they might take this into consideration as I should atleast have my test booked soon after the interview.

Any advice,

Should I go or will i be wasting my time and have no chance?

This job means so much to me as its what I have wanted to do for a long time!

Thanks, Sam

I would probably contact them first and ask.

It's not going to look good, is it? There will be many people there, who one day they will potentially trust with a vehicle they own, and you are going to rock up after having had your license revoked?

Exactly my thoughts its not going to look good from the off so I fully understand if they were just to turn me away,

I might give them a call and ask.

Ive just got a job as a Customer Service Engineer and it stated on the job description that it has to be clean and was asked in the Interview if I had any points.

Unless you can get a test booked before the interview i'd say your gunna be pretty stuffed because as you probably know, your driving a van every day!

Best bet is to try and get a test before the day, if not go along with a document saying you've got your test booked within the next few weeks :)

+1 there are issues with having an "unclean" driving license as well too. BT do mark this on your employee record (if you get the job - chances are if there is someone else with the same experience / qualifications - they will give them the job instead of you).

Can you go to the interview and say you've sent your driving license off in the post to open a bank account, and you don't expect to receive it back for a few weeks?

Gives you time to get a test sorted?

They've asked him to bring along the full license so it's going to look, at best, as if he can't follow instructions. At worst if they find out later that he lied to them and was retaking his test then it's probably a disciplinary or even dismissal offence.

Hyper: Good luck in getting it sorted but it may be worth either asking them outright about the issue or attempting to put off the interview entirely for the moment if you aren't comfortable speaking to them directly on this.

Hi there,

I am a third year BT apprentice, different job, I work in an office and follow a business course, at the moment, and as far as I am aware the only apprentice jobs that are coming up are for 'Managed Fibre installs' which will require a drivers license from day one as its a (wo)man in a van job.
I would say you might be out of luck here, but i'd echo what others said above, be as up front as possible, and if possible try get your test sat before the hub day.
I ran a hub day in edinburgh once, anyone who turned up without the correct documents was binned im afraid :(
