I'm an NTL user so don't have much experience of BT lines.

My mate has had BT Broadband installed with a Speedtouch 330 modem but he's getting nothing. I asked if he could plug his phone into the wall socket (without filter) and make a call and he confirmed that he could. I thought that if broadband was switched on that you needed filters on your phone to make a call or am I talking rubbish?

Someone correct me if im wrong.

If I remember right, If you plug into a ADSL line with just the phone it works fine but you may find there is a slight buzz in the background.

For the ADSL to work you can't have anything on the line without a filter.

Also if he can he should try pluging the modem into the master socket (socket behind the backplate of master/main socket to the house) with the a filter to rule out his house lines.

can anybody confirm that please?

Define "nothing" - is it even syncing up?

That ADSL will work without a filter though - the ADSL side of a filter's just a wire...

If you can try setting up the internet, with no filters at all, you should be ok.

The filters only really come into play if you are trying to use a phone at the same time.

It is possible that the filter/s are/is broken, or even the phone cable?

When you say that there is nothing, how do you mean? is the Modem setup properly, is the PC tryign to connect but nothign is happening, and if so, where does it stop or fail, and what kind of errors are you getting?

Give us a clue?
