Up a Tree...
hello.
im having problems with my bt broadband speed.

i have been with them for years now,
and... well. right now im on option 3.

we use to pay the 29.99 a month one, with was option 4 i think.
but we changed to option 1. (that was no good, i used 90gb lol that month on download) they didnt charge, but we went back to option 3.

now.. its been fine for months,
im on 2MB connection and use to get around 150-200kb's download.

last week its dropped... and every single download i do.
its capped at 50-60kb's....???

i sent a email to BT asking, whats up.
i will phone 2moro, but i wanted to know if anyone got this problem...

what should i do?
i checked around on my pc. it doesnt seem to be anything on here.
i checked my microfilter. and that seems fine too..

is it my ISP...
my connection problems... or something else?

i have no idea what it is, as i have never been capped before...
but i tried everything, and i just can get my old speed back :(

i allways download a lot. games/demo's/trailers...

pretty much everyday.

but i have been for years... why have BT got greedy and capped everyone, and everything...

soon as its past bank holiday monday, im complaing. if they dont fix it how it use to be... im looking elsewhere.

no way im paying £35 a month.. for broadband and phoneline, and only getting 50kbs max on downloads... it took me 9 hours to download a 1.24bg file :(

You have probably gone over you alloted cap or have been put on the "bad boy pipe".

It is really selfish of bt to put caps on in order to make some money to invest in their network.

thing is.. they capped it before the end of last month... and now through this month, i cant wait all the way through may with 50kbs download max limit.

specially paying that price a month... its just not worth it.
specially when your thinking your getting unlimted.

most people wouldnt even notice, or think its there connection/hardware.
shame on BT!

i did that speed test....

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2400 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 415 kbps

but... im not getting that.. no way near...
im getting 50kbs... download.. :(

i cant have this like it is all month... 9+ hours for 1.24gb file!!!

I think you are getting your bits and bytes confused.

Your connecting will deliver a maximum of around 30KB/s with the line profile you have now and that matches the time you report for a 1.24GB download.

From the looks of your current sync your profile has been knocked down by a low sync event and it takes 3 days of the higher sync before hte profile will go up again.

Your IP proflie would explain your speeds. Have you tried restarting your router? I'd recommend leaving it off for maybe 20 mins and then turn back on to make sure you get a new IP. Sometimes it can be worth doing this a few times to re-sync your line.

Of course you may well be being throttled. I noticed lastnight that i was also experiencing about ~60KB/s (~512Kbit/s) in the late evening on our BT Business Broadband ADSL Max connection, when we usually get 700KB/s.

I had downloaded nearly 30GB earlier in the day though :P

I'm being throttled to around 30-50KB/s max exactly from 18:00-24:00 every single day, but port 21 (FTP port) works fine though (getting 500-800KB/s anytime)...I'm on a 8MB line.

I'll switch to other ISPs immediately after my contract ends...have had enough

problems still. :(

ok i did what you said.
i retarted my Netgear router, using the reset.
waited 20-30mins. turned it all on, set up the BT browser and admin on the netgear..

it seem to work ok. i managed to pick up speeds of 174kbs...except for...
it would jump up to that, then sundenly back down again, every few seconds.

and it seems to be affecting my gameplay too, aswell as downloads.
i did check my alt/cntl task manager then wireless.

this is how jumpy it got. i went from 174kbs back to 0... then up and down.

the green bar indicates when it went high.. (most download speed-170+)
and low when it was hitting 0 speed... this was every few seconds.

i did a test on a 30mb download. trailer... :/

i did another speed test on the speedtest-BT page one.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2688 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1267 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.

Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.

seems better, except for the jump/every few mins which is causing problems for me, im not sure how to fix...

Is your wireless signal OK?

If that checks out i'd probably contact BT to see if they can see anything wrong on your line, unless you happen to have a spare ADSL modem or router you can test with.

never had a problem with my Netgear router.
had for years,

and this only been happening past week on the cap for speeds, but now after i did that restart im getting the download up/down issue.

here is my fileplanet download... up and down looking at the graph.
someone it would just stop at 0kbs then go back up.

really have no clue why...
i may do another restart.

btw.. this is on a premium account with constant high download speeds,
i use to allways have max connection on this... now :/

This is my favourite speed test:
http://www.btopenworld.com/speedtest

Just download the large file direct from BT.

At lunchtime I usually get 700kbps+, right now I'm getting an amazing 45kbps....

I cant even play games because they lag so much now. I think I am going definitely going to migrate.

I did say 'restart' and not 'reset', so you may have inadvertently changed some settings in the router. Sometimes lowering the MTU can help, from 1500 to 1450 or something. Try another restart (turn off and on).

Also, do you have any other devices that could be using network bandwidth? Spywared PC's, some hobo next door stealing your bandwidth etc...?

oh sorry,
i thought u said reset. hehe

well it needed one... anyway its been on for the past.. i dunno 6 months non-stop

but i just did another going to see what its like now...
and nope only my pc on it at the mo,

and yes its wireless. but again had no probs before. :/

Might be worth trying your PC connected directly via a wired connection whilst also disabling the wireless. Helps to rule the router out of the equation which would be handy.
