Hi there,

Unfortuntly me being 17, i download a lot ;)
Ant BT have when and capped us, even though we are on there option 3, there is a download limit of 100GB a month , me and mum have went over it !

Mum uses facebook a lot and never off forums and youtube ! :P
Also play COD and BFBC2 but that dont affect it.

Only thing is we are only in the contract about 6 months and still have a nother month or somwthin left.

Do you thing another broadband company would buy us out ?

e.g..
Virgin
Sky
02

What are your views points on these companys, what there speed and download limit like ?

Cheers
Nathan

Virgin will throttle your connection if you go over a certain amount during the day but it resets each day, and they have times with no throttling (on fibre), also no monthly cap/limit. BE (which is owned by o2 i think?) don't throttle or cap but you might not get the advertised speeds. This is from my experience of the two.

There's a quite simple answer, pay for a package which includes a big enough download amount if you're using that much, yes it'll cost a lot more but then you're costing the ISP a lot, bandwidth isn't free.

You can spend the time you would have spent playing games and downloading to learn how to write, it's a win-win situation.

To the average person tho, a package sold as "unlimited" should be able to cope with a fairly high level of useage... and trust me BT do not make it obvious how much the fair useage allowance really is... and infact don't adhere to their own useage guidelines - you usually get the 80gig warning at ~60gig and are throttled from then on not from the 100gig email as it states.

It's nice to see that only one person has actually answered the question he asked, which was for opinions on the internet providers he listed and not on how he can stop himself getting capped.

I'm on virgin 20mb and I do find the throttling if you download too much in peak hours abit of a pain in the butt. Getting 50mb in spetember though which doesn't have any kind of throttling on it

stop downloading illegal files

wrong

Who says he is downloading illegal files... maybe he is downloading linux isos. :P

PR0N ;)

Anyways, with VM it is quite dependent on where you live. Depending on how many people around you use VM BB, the contention ratio could be higher or lower. I usually get decent speeds even though VM is popular where I live; I get a full 10mbps connection however at peak times this usually drops to about 3mbps.

Wrong again (quite possibly) unless he has a stupidly expensive subscription to a big site or pays for each dvd/bluray pron download it will still be illegal.

No, I dont think its possibly to max out 100gb of standard def pron from the usual sites like youtube

Whatever you are downloading, skymax doesnt have restrictions.

My steam folder is 150gb with about half the games installed (admittedly they are probably larger than the non downloaded ones), perhaps the op has a similar collection in addition to porn (he didn't say non paying). Add in bbc hd programs and lots of youtube and a second person using the internet and you can easily use 100gb a month without doing anything illegal.

Give the op a break unless he's starts talking about doing illegal dling.

Please don't turn this into another "how the fig do you use x amount of bandwidth per month" thread which will only get locked. If people want an education in basic arithmetic google is your their friend :)

Unless something's changed BT will only let you out of your contract early if you pay the remaining time in it. Virgin and O2 adsl over bts network is even worse, although vrigins cable is great only the 50meg lines arn't throttled. If you can get O2 llu then that would be the way to go really, speeds will at worst be equal to BT, but in reality everything's faster thanks no zero shaping.

To go over 100gb a month, someone (probably you) is downloading a HELL of a lot!

No amount of gaming or iplayer usage would send you anywhere near 100gb.

Sounds to me like you a torrenting like there is no tomorrow!

the only good thing about BT is they have never stopped me downloading teh torrentz, must have downloaded over 5TB

but with the current speeds of some ISP's its quite sad that i still only get 1.5Mb/s

no isp would have any reason to buy out a user thats being throttled or capped at 100gb a month, it would make no business sense,

Could they find usage from BT dont know

Yeah no ISP will buy you out, and sky/O2 networks when I last checked were getting pretty crowded from all the people jumping on when they did have more relaxed useage limits and not so hot.

If you can get it BE still seems to cater to heavier users quite well, but your gonna have to see out or pay out of your BT contract first.

100GB a month, that's a heck of a lot, as said games, iplayer/youtube won't be that much.

If you have Sky then switch to the max package if you have LLU

Perhaps he has had a `poor` month:D
I have heard good things about sky particularly if you can get on their llu package
Personally I like to see what i am getting so am with ukfsn (can only squeeze 2b -2.5 meg out of my line :( )
All you can eat off peak;)
