BT Capped us

i managed to download about 60gb of steam games in a few weeks, just after i built my computer, for some strange reason now my internet has gone really slow, i mean like transfer speed is 12Kbs per sec and its worse than dial up for web pages. and i dont have pr0n or download torrents.

You can always pay for an uncontended connection....

Though to go over 100GB a month would require constant 24/7 downloading at 38.5 KB/s...

For one person alone sure its not that easy to exceed 100gig without resorting to generally less than legal means... tho I'm fast approaching it this month (estimated 90gig) having downloaded the entire seasons 1 of sons of anarchy HD and a couple of other entire TV series that I haven't seen before on iTunes... yes I paid for it.

But if you have 3-4 people each using a reasonable 20-30gig it quickly mounts up.

Steam backup

You can't back games up that you've never downloaded before ;)

As for the OP, I'd reccommend Sky (Max or Unlimited, i forget which they call it now) aslong as it's LLU, No FUP/traffic management etc. I have no idea if they'd be willing to buy you out of your existing contract tho :(.

Removed. Admission to piracy.

Im not complaining but my mum pays for it, but i hate us getting bills for going over our limit, 2 months ago £171.11 bill, that has been sorted now with us only paying 1/4 of it ;)

I have no job so have to get movies and albums so way :L and maybe the odd Operating systems ;) But who's say everyone else don't do it !

And our option ? We are on BT's highest with vision, phone and BB, even the Vision wont want to work now, with the ***** speeds.

To go over 100gb a month, someone (probably you) is downloading a HELL of a lot!

No amount of gaming or iplayer usage would send you anywhere near 100gb.

Sounds to me like you a torrenting like there is no tomorrow!

Are you serious, posts like this really annoy me, I go over BT's cap of a 100gb all the time and I hardly ever download anything illegal bar the odd TV serial, most of my usage is taken up with iPlayer and 4OD, they are my only TV, I do not use a conventional television any-more, a 1 hour (non HD) television programme on iPlayer for example is around 600/700mb, x 10 that 6/7gb already with just ten programmes and I watch a lot more than just ten programmes a month and that's not even including the HD content.

Also take into account a HD movie rental via 360 or PS3, 10gb, yes 10gb, for just one movie wipes out 10% of your monthly bandwidth, then there is youtube which now eats bandwidth due to most videos now using HD, also I personally stream 192kbs trance radio stations off of shoutcast most of the month and that also adds up to a hell of a lot, plus Steam, I can't even finish downloading all my purchased games yet due to the size of them.

Also don't forget about the bandwidth the PS3 and the 360 network uses, downloading games/demo's, wireless laptops, and we've not even taken into account just generally browsing the web, it all adds up.

Seriously it's very very easy to legitimately go over 100gb if you use your PC as your main hub for media and entertainment rather than something you just surf on and play a few games on in the evening.

I'm sorry to rant on but it just bugs me that some people automatically assume that you are a pirate just because you burn through 100gb, for me 100gb is nothing, absolutely nothing, and things are only going to get worse when more TV services and media transfer on-line.

bt capped us as well we get 1 meg during peak hours for a whole month now :(

all the files were nice and legit as well, we bought too much from steam recently.

tbh I was on the top BT package ("Unlimited") and I got capped after about 40-50GB
having no TV signal in my area iPlayer etc is my only option so it's really a bit pants. moved to plusnet now, at least now I can say exactly what I should be getting.

I'd really recommend Sky's LLU if you can get it, I get a rock solid 1.6Mb/s. I don't think that they'd buy you out though.

Does anyone really care what this chap is downloading?

Not really, but a few people here have always had polarised vision :p

If you can live with skys router then it's viable, but O2 don't tie you down to theirs and it's dirt cheap if you have a mobile and use quidco.

Thanks you lads. least you can see where i am coming from, and not downloading as much waht these lot think.

Ive heard ood reviews from friends and neighbours about o2 and good thing is me and mum is on 02,.

BT give us 6.5mbs during the day nd at night now 1.5mbs, this then makes our vision not work cus you need at least 2mbs for it to run properly.

I would be like lowrider007, i would watch a lot on bbc iplayer and 4od.

I've just had this problem, was going over 200gb a month, with no torrenting or illegal downloads.

I've moved to sky, and I'm getting between 9-13mb a second download speeds. With low pings on games. BT Did limit me, and I was getting fed up of that, and frequent disconnects.

I can't complain about sky really, they're a really good broadband provider.
