bt connection help

My router and bt say i am connected at

DownStream Connection Speed 4992 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

But i'm not getting much over 512k actual speeds anyone any idea what's going on are they limiting me to never get above 1 meg ? The india call center guy said that my ip profile which is set at 1000 is not limiting my connection
is this true? i know it was 2000 last friday but the floods made phone lines go down on this entire street.Now when it's all supposedly fixed im getting 512k whereas before the flood i averaged around 5/6mb sec.

No, that isn't true. If you're IP profile is set to 1000, then that's obviously the problem...

Take the BT speed tester to see what you're IP profile is now:
http://speedtester.bt.com/

Wait 3 days or so, and hopefully you're IP profile will increase (providing you're line doesn't go down again). If it doesn't increase within 3 days, phone BT back and tell them you have a stuck IP profile.

That's one of the many reasons why I left them.

Phone them back again and raise a fault, tell them you're profile is stuck. Hopefully you will get through to someone who actually understands.
