BT DNS filtering

Hi guys,

I am having an issue with BT infinity giving me the following messages when I am connecting to the internet from machines within my testing domain. (non domain PCs are having no problems).

"You are seeing this page because you are using a BT service which requires the use of BT DNS servers and it appears you are attempting to connect using a DNS server outside of our network"

It then says i have to connect to my BT ID and turn off and delete parental controls and Bt protect to get rid of this. Both of these have been done yesterday.

This was not an issue last week, and BT are just trying to forward me to the paid "tech experts"..

My internal domain is using my DC for DNS, non domain connected devices have no issues.

I have tried using various DNS settings, but it looks like BT are filtering connections using any DNS server not in "their network". Any ideas on what I can do to solve this, or who i can speak to at BT to understand if there is a way to turn off this filtering?

Have you got DNS setup on your test server that is dishing out settings or is the router doing it for you?

If you set the DNS manually to 8.8.8.8 does it start working?

My setup is complicated!

I am running an Ubuntu machine, running virtualbox, with a DC inside. I am connected to a netgear prosafe switch configured to stop DHCP hitting the network I am connected to.

I have a DC inside, and a Citrix Xendesktop hosting 2012 and windows desktop OS's. DNS is handled by the DC, and DHCP by my Ubuntu laptop.

I guess I need to change the DNS in ubuntu, but I am scratching my head a the moment. It was working last week! I rolled my snapshots back to that time, and it still happens!

I think i may have figured a way to get this to work. I have changed the DNS on the VMs to point directly to the Ubuntu host, and removed my DC from the DNS settings. Not sure how local resolution will work, if at all with it set this way?!

However, it is now allowing these VMs out to the net without the BT filtering!

Sounds like a bizarre setup what are you trying to achieve out if interest?
It's a testing setup for work. Allows me to replicate customer errors and demo a live environment with Internet access without hitting the customer's DHCP but allowing my own DHCP in the environment. The physical switch also allows me to connect external device.

I have virtual environments for RDS and Xendesktop/Xenapp all using the same DC and I just fire up the required servers and host machines depending on which environment I need to test with.

Makes more sense! Some people just seem to like overly complicated setups for the hell of it!
