I have just been notified by BT that because I have exceeded the 100GB limit for this month, my speed restriction is now dropped to 1Mb for 30 days.

Is this normal practise for ISP's or just BT being a pain the the ****

1gb limit?

I have a 10gb limit and they charge me a quid or something for every gb I go over that. Sometimes reaching £25 in overuse fees.

How the hell did you manage to exceed the full 1GB limit in a month? You weren't looking at text and pictures at the same time were you?

LOL :p

Serioulsy 1 GB is a poor cap. I thought Sky had the lowest at 2GB.

EDIT : Just looked at the BT site and the lowest I could see was 10GB. Perhapas the OP meant 10GB

BT offer an Option 3 package of 'unlimited downloads' but apparently if you go over 100GB a month, they drop your speed down to 1Mb.....

That being said... 100gb in a month is 3gb per day. Just how much are you downloading off bittorrent? And yes, I'm sure it's all just linux isos.

I often exceed 100GB, not been throttled yet. As I understand it your account is more likely to get flagged if you have a lot of specific traffic ;)

I had this happen they are throttling me from 6pm to 12. Ironically now I get much better speeds off peak. It's actually made it better for downloads. It's a bit annoying though as I can't watch iplayer at night. May switch to O2... but then that's what they want!

We've just had a business customer get throttled to 1MB after exceeding 100GB for two months in a row... supposedly they were downloading a load of catalogues from the States... yeah, "catalogues"

you have o2 in your area but haven't signed up? you're mad! at the moment you can get 2 months free and 50 sheets cashback from quidco. and even more money off if you have an o2 moible.
