Bit of a strange problem this one, BT Infinity is available on my local exchange (Congleton) friends all around me can get or have the service, yet when i run either my BT phone number or house / flat number and postcode through the line checker it says infinity isn't available.

Now i know the local exchange has been upgraded, does BT need to do something between the exchange and my local on street connection box for Infinity to be enabled?

Any help with this would be great, i've phoned BT but they are next to useless, they've already done a line check and simply told me the system says no.

check www.btwholesale.com/adslchecker with your telephone number to see if any FTTC product is available to you. if your estimate is <15mbit/s you won't be eligable for BT Infinity per se, but should be able to order "Total Broadband Option 3 over Fibre", on which pretty much every customer I've seen has actually got over 15mbit/s.

If there's no information, the cabinet you're connected to might not be enabled yet (or even planned to be enabled).

Thank's for the info, bit of a joke that enabling the exchange could mean that service coverage for that area is limited to 10 street boxes, wft.

Thing is i now know what i need to go back to BT with and what i need to ask / push for so i can get the service. I'm currently gettting a 15.5mb connection speed with Sky but i'd prefer to move to something quicker.

Just did that with a phone number (not my home unfortunately as I know that won't be getting FTTC!) and got this:
Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th June 2011. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 37.7Mbps and upstream line speed of 9.8Mbps.
I'm confused.... planning to have FTTC in June but currently supporting 37.7Mbps/9.8Mbps .

That makes sense - they already know how far you are away from the cab based on plant records, so your line does currently (this should read could, not does currently)support 37.7Mbps, it's just that the technology to provide that is not yet available to you.

Getting this installed this wed. My estimate is 7.2mb. Only get 1 meg adsl atm

Why would you complain about getting 15mb? lol Should be fine for most people unless you love to download those illegal films/games
