BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

anyone having massive problems with BT infinity?

My line is connected at 40mb and I can't even get 2mb a any speedtest

websites are VERY slow to load.

Anyone else having problems like this?

Are you still having problems Locky?

Since I had my modem replaced 3 months ago, my line has been 100% stable.

Are you connected to the hub via a cable?

Set the speed of the connection on the local ethernet adapter.

Try changing the cable your using to connect to the hub.

As a speed test try downloading drivers from the Nvidia and/or ATI site, to see what your speed is.

I always get accurate results from http://speedtest.net/

hmm speedtest.net gives me 37mbits/s and yet when i download off a dedicated ftp i am pulling 4.5-4.7mb/s. Weird.

Still i am still in the honeymoon phase of this Infinity setup and I just cant stop doing speedtests and downloading everything :P.

I have been having issues for the past 30 minutes or so. The internet was completely dead for about 10 minutes, but now sites are beginning to load (this site was dead until about 5 minutes ago, amazon is still dead).

All the speedtests I've done are fine (as soon as I was actually able to load the page.) Hopefully it's just a temp thing, and it does seem to be getting better.

tried to phone the bt help line and it said they are having tech problems and hung up.

Seems to be ok now

just checked my line stats and all is in order there too.

Hmm, after years of being on ADSL 10mbit, i was so used to seeing any ftp server in locations such as uk nl de etc maxxing me out.

Seems with infinity some servers dont max me out. wtf, i want any server in any area of the world to constantly max me out! Instead i sometimes have to use 2 or 3 threads to give me 4.6mb/s. This means i have to click and move my mouse more. BT infinity sucks!!!!!!

Hi all, I posted a while back about the engineer replacing the wire that goes from a nearby post to my house last Tuesday.

Ever since, my Internet connection has been constantly stable *touches wood!* and my speeds have been around 25mbps download and 8mbps upload (only since friday as it was 5mbps before) I am also getting good ping. My download speed isnt quite the 37mbps it should be, however my connection has been totally stable so im a tad hesitent to ask for a profile reset and risk instability. 25mbps is still a good speed.

I was playing Bad Company 2 last night, and performance was pretty much perfect, which also says a lot about my wireless adapter.

Hmm, bit of an update. While i was getting great download speeds and pings were very nice, I was finding that my internet connection wasnt super stable. It would cut off completely then the draytek would reconnect. Pretty annoying if I was using ssh or trying to download something.

Anyway I woke up this morning and I am pretty sure interleaving has come on. My pings have gone up by 20ms and my sync speed has gone down from 39850 to 35400ish. Download speeds are down from 4.6mb/s to 4.1mb/s.

Pinging bbc.co.uk gives 38ms.

However the line seems a lot more stable and my download speeds are a solid 4.1mb/s whereas before the download graph would go up and down a lot.

Swings and roundabouts I guess. Stable line, but higher ping and lower download speed, altho its still a x4 increase in download speed from adsl.

My question is, will interleaving ever be removed by itself once the line settles. Bear in mind i have only had infinity for 2 days. Just see what happens in a week and don't touch the router?

I do game on xbox and i just got into the pc counterstrike:go closed beta that starts next month so i would like a fairly low ping.

Advice please.

Ok another update :),

Line has been very very stable now for the last 6 hours. Before I would have had a dropout and reconnect.

Anyway I am pretty sure that I have some level of interleaving now applied (does anyone know how many levels of interleaving BT uses?).

As a result my pings have increased by 10-20ms and I have lost about 500kb/s of download speed.

Currently synched at 35415 whereas before it was 39850. I think I can live with this setup as its still a vast improvement over my old broadband. Just a little depressing seeing the speeds drop after an initially awesome first day but I guess if i have an unstable line, I am going to have to live with some form of interleaving.

Just for comparison,

Before interleaving:

After interleaving:

I read through this thread and some people (saw and email from CEO) that interleaving will never get turned off once its applied. Is this definately true?

Also if my line continues to be stable will the ip profile rise even with interleaving on?

I am finally wondering if a line profile reset will also reset the Interleaving level. However no point fighting and ringing for this if my line needs interleaving on right :P.

Mana, I would go back to the OR modem for the initial 10 days, you should still be able to use the draytek as a router. Do you know the length of the line?
