BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

ok good news, woke up this morning and my modem had disconnected and reconnected during the night. checked sync speeds and they went up from 24500ish to 32500. So hopefully if it leave my modem on constantly for the remainder of the 10 days it will go up even higher.

Really dont wanna have to ring BT India in order to get an ip profile reset :P.
 
Does anyone know if Sky will be reselling FTTC connections?
Sky decided to turn up at my exchange about a month ago - as I already get Sky television was looking at a potential move over to them once my current Talk Talk LLU contract ends in about 2 months time.

However I also see the FTTC status at my exchange as "Available in some areas, completed by 31-11-11".
So by the time my Talk Talk contract is up for renewal, BT FTTC will be available.
Just want to know if it's worth waiting to hear if Sky will also be offering FTTC services?
 
In my Draytek 2750, the system log reports the following every minute:

Timeout waiting for PADO packets
Unable to complete PPPoE Discovery

Does anyone know what this all means?

Does Infinity require an MTU value? I am getting hundreds of CRC errors and I am wondering if that's to do with my router not having an MTU setting.

You could use a VPN to get faster speeds on torrents - https://www.vpntunnel.se/en/ (I've not actually tried this but I assume this would work)

Or switch to newsgroups which run full speed 24/7 for me on BT Infinity.

Yes that's right. You would need a usenet provider like Supernews or Astraweb.

It's a bit different to torrents but once you get used to it then you'll never go back. I get 4.5MB/s download 24/7 on Infinity with Supernews.

What download software are you using ... uTorrent ? If so make sure you tick / enable 'Protocol Encryption' in Prefrences , bittorrent. I found mine went from 15kbps to a constant 2mb+ anytime of day.

Oh anyone, surely someone must know the colour of the extension cable BT use when installing Infinity ?

the Draytek 2750N defaults its MTU to 1442, I changed mine to 1492. It gives you a warning in log files about this but ignore that. Since doing that I havent had any crc errors in downloaded rar files and exe files. Hope this

Cheers for that.

Changed to the Draytek last week because of radom internet disconnections this past 3 weeks. Went well for 3 months up until now and thought it might have been modem/router problem but it has made no difference. Download speed connection rate has dropped by nearly 10mb so now I am wondering if there is a fault with the line.
 
Can anyone who has had Infinity installed tell me how invasive the process is?. Do they need to drill a hole in the wall to feed the connecting through?.

I'm asking this because we don't have a BT line here and the flats are Grade 2 listed and we cannot do anything to them. VM don't cable the area and we sit right between 2 exchanges so ADSL 2 speeds are a lousy 4.5Mb. Infinity is my only option but it can't be done if they have to drill through a wall :(

They need to get the cable from the cabinet inside so they can install the BT sockets. If there some way to get cables inside without drilling you will be fine otherwise they need to drill a hole.

I'm using Vuze; I'll check to see if there's a similar option in that. Or should I be switching?

I'm checking out the Usenet newsgroup stuff too. Thanks for the advice so far guys :)

Looks like it is a no go then. There is no access and drilling is not allowed. Why the hell the landlord used The Utility Warehiuse Club I don't know :(
