BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

All the street works information comes from Street Manager which is the DfT's England wide register since July 2020. One.Network redact the description but it really should be available from the register, you might just need to ask your local Highway Authority.

Happened to speak with a customer asking for an update on a business fibre install, which in short appeared as if Openreach had permitted and then cancelled the works last November, then never submitted anything else. No reason for the cancellation.

I've managed to keep the prices relatively alright for the last 2 years here (both have been under 27 quid each) but it's such an effort to find a supplier that isn't awful, isn't just chomping at the bit waiting to raise prices in March/April or has some weird clause where they actually charge you an extra 5 quid fee per month to rent a router that you can't opt out of...
Threw my toys out the pram with both existing suppliers and managed to get 12 month contract extensions at the same price without an increase in March/April - so one line at 23 quid and the other at 23.79.

It's mad how we have to do this dance each and every time. FTTP scheduled for this year so at least we'll move from two to one once that's all sorted.

Was there not talk of them offering symetrical connections a little while ago? Have they been rolled out anywhere? I don't want 8500/850, I just want 1000/1000.

It's available in Project Gigabit areas and costs a lot.

Ooof, ouch. I mean I'd pay that if it were the only thing around. Not sure that'll apply to where I'm looking unfortunately.

It's not a "real" product, it's there to satisfy the requirements of the project gigabit contracts. Symmetric options will need to wait for XGS-PON, Openreach aren't going to sell someone 1Gbps upload on a PON that only has 1.2Gbps of upstream capacity, CityFibre are happy to do this but their committed rate is only 35Mbps upload so anybody getting 50Mbps up on their 1Gb service can complain to their ISP, but the ISP can't take it to CityFibre.

Well after seeing open reach running fibre in the street towards the end of December then seeing them inspecting chambers last week/taking photos, it appears I can now order full fibre. Guess I'll be phoning Zen to see if I can get any sort of deals.

As far as I’m aware CityFibre have completed their XGS rollout.

Is it normal for the Openreach checker to show that progress is actually going backwards?

Their FTTP checker has shown for a while that my postcode is in scope to “be built within the next year” but now it says “we have no plans to build in this area”.

Openreach have been doing a bit of work in our village, but not tons.

Despite the Openreach checker saying I'm not getting fibre any time soon, bidb.uk shows that they're clearing the ducts in our road next week!

I found this one https://one.network/ useful also.
I believe prior to my town starting work, There was a lot of duct clearing and repairs to pavement street boxes.

I've got my install date for the 12th of February.

Use your phone or a VPN, Zen aren't going to give your banned IP to someone else because that person would rightly complain that their new connection doesn't let them buy tickets
