BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I don't get throttled at all on Infinity, steady 4.4MB/s down all the time. I think the throttling only applies to P2P, and I have nothing to do with that.

me too, had it since June and its actually got slight faster in last couple of months.

Is there a new hub coming soon for Infinity users? I have a friend who has no problems with his connection/HH3 but he got a call yesterday saying they're sending him a new hub? Why ?

I have the HH3 also but no Infinity connection and didn't get the call, so I assumed maybe a new hub for FTTC?

I dont think the 10 days applies to Infinity. Been having the same speed from day one even after rebooting the Modem :)

Can someone explain the 10 day thing? Is it just an ISP copout so you don't contact them straight away or are BT genuinely learning the stability of the line during this period?

In layman's terms during the 10 day training period the DLM will monitor your connection for line retrains/syncs and error rates and automatically adjust both your IP profile and interleaving depth as and when necessary in order to maintain a steady connection.

As a result it's advisable to leave the modem alone during this period rather than switching it on and off at randon which the DLM could interpret as multiple resyncs.

It's also worth noting that the DLM continues to monitor the connection after the 10 day training period and will still make changes, if it deems necessary, as long as the service is in place.

Well I hope it is them doing something because I'm not happy with this

Been getting this kind of results (and worse) far too often today. I'll leave it the full 10 days before I start getting irate at my ISP though

Who the heck are ChunkyChips.Net?:D

I used to work for their IT sister company so I know the lads that work there hence why I use them (better speaking to them than India if I have a problem)

How accurate will it be though, before i had my FTTC installed it kept telling me i would get 25mbit at most, possibly as low as 15Mbit, yet here i am 2mths in and I'm still getting a rock solid 38Mbit.

Yeah the accuracy might not be great. I was quoted 22Mb from the checker but I have the full 40Mb sync as well.

I suppose we just wait and see.

Was anyone able to get their master socket moved as part of the Infinity install? some sites suggest that it may be possible using tea & bikkies to bribe the engineer

My engie was quite happy to "move" the socket rather than faf about with 20 or 30 meters of extensiona cable :P

Due to how my sockets are wired though I did have to have two disabled to allow the master to move from the lounge to the study (where my PC is)

So I did have

Lounge master -------- Hall ------- Study

Now have

Lounge (dead) -------- Hall (Dead) ------ Study master

I had tea (greatfully accepted) and bickkies (not botered) in stick, just incase :)

The BT engineer who did my FTTC ran new external cabling to an upstairs bedroom and fitted a new master socket. He then picked up existing wiring to link back to the socket in the lounge (the old master).
