BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I have got RJK to change the title of this thread, to save other threads being created of the same discussion.
Good idea, lets keep a derailed thread alive that is now feeding the already rife missconception that FTTC = Infinity

Who needs choice and competition anyway

As you were and good luck to all the newcomers. Bye.

Would you like your dummy back? You go and flounce off over a thread title :p

Ok more than likely something daft that I'm doing or not doing as case may be. I've just got around to unlocking my modem and for some weird reason it doesn't appear to be unlocking, I've carried out everything that was said in the pdf how to but whenever I try to reconnect to the IP address to the login section it just never appears? I have selected the correct firmware (SP10 in my case and modem version is 3B) so wondering is there something else? Cheers

Have you configured your network card to the I.P address stated in the PDF? And connected your computer via ethernet straight to the LAN 2 port on the modem?

Mate you just replied as Ive sat down again from checking the LAN 2 port, yes I configured the IP but no I didnt connect via LAN 2, it still has the daft little sticker over it! Guess that has been it, time for another go :)

Cheers :)

My girlfriend had it installed yesterday, and I've had mine for a few months.

Yesterday i got her to do a speedtest and this is what she got:

and here's mine:

Now, I can only assume because it's just been installed the line is not configured fully? We're gonna keep testing it over the next few days but that is slightly worrying!

The ping seems good, which is why I can only assume it's not been fully configured yet, but I guess we'll have to wait and see?

Also I've read around that 15Mbit is the lowest speed allowed before you can cancel the product, anyone know if this is true?

So I will soon be moving house and virgin fibre isn't available, however I can get FTTC. I've been looking at ADSL24's fibre 15 pro product for £21.90 a month plus BT £10 line rental. This is unlimited except for 15gb day time peak time allowance which is fine.

A lot of people seem to be going with the BT products which seem to be a few £ more per month for a comparable service.

Am I missing something?

BT Infinity Option 2 is completely unlimited bandwidth for a few quid a month more.

That's why it's an attractive option for most people.

fair enough, I can't see myself using more than 15gb between 8am and midnight, most of my downloads are done overnight so it seems a good fit for me :)

That's only 500MB a day though. All you need to do is watch a few HD videos on Youtube and that's gone.

Agreed, I'd rather pay a few quid more like I do with BT than be throttled if I go over or have to pay stupidly large amounts per GB.

OOooooo, 15gb per MONTH. Yeah, that's **** :p

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not but an allowance of 15GB a month during waking hours is pretty poor to say the least.

The knock on effect of such restrictions is all the other customers on the same CP will wait until 12.01AM to start their downloads which results in congestion and your download speeds falling off a cliff until 2/3AM when it picks up again.
