BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I had a Kellys communication guy come over about 1.5 weeks ago to replace the modem. I then got another call from BT yesterday saying they need to replace it again.

Surely that isn't right?

Sounds like your typical communication breakdown between BT and KC.

There's only a few. The DrayTek Vigor 2750, Fritzbox 7390 and Billion 8200N are the only VDSL2 routers available in this country that I can think of off the top of my head.

Is it defo the billion 8200n as opposed to the 7800? The 8200 appears significantly cheaper than the others you mention :)

Cheers .Griff. :) - yeah the 8200n is around the £100 mark and the others are £150 ish and upward depending on which one

I might give the 8200n a try :)

Ah, thanks for that - after reading up I think I may give the Vigor 2850 a try - anyone else got one or swapped their OR modem and HH3 for one ?

I struggled with the 2750n to get it working, can't remember what I did wrong, but it was a silly error on my part, once I realised I was soon up & working.

The Vigor 2750n was vastly superior to the BT supplied kit.

Install went fine on Friday. Currently getting 37 down - 9 up. So far very impressed - even impressed by the tech desk that walked me through assigining my mulitple statics.

Got a Draytek 2930 in the draw - already had a drop out of the BT Business hub :(

After a bit of further reading and just about to hit buy it looks like the 2850 is only 50 meg throughput? The 2750 is 800! Seems odd to reduce so much on a newer version :S

Strange, didn't notice that TB, you just saved me from an costly mistake, looks like another Vigor 2750N for me.

2850n: With the addition of a built-in interface which supports both ADSL/ADSL2+ and also VDSL lines (such as the BT Infinity service) for connectivity up to 50Mb/s.

But, WAN isn't the same as Infinity though, that were your confused I think.

Yeah I was quite taken aback when I read it and a real step backwards from the 2750n

I've emailed draytek support to double check it's not an error on the tech sheet :s I'll let you know .....

Thank you.

I chosed the 2750n for it's DNLA support, but Draytek isn't the easiest work out, as there is usually two or three models per series, i.e 2750, 2750n, 2750vn all with different features.

Just done my new address, don't get infinity (40mb) until 27th - the check is saying we can get 58mb down and 20mb up... no idea of attainable yet!
