BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

More money than sense.

But seriously, why would you need 8 IPs on a home connection?

Also the throttling that BT does is on torrents only, and that helps people like you.

I'm not having a go at him really it's obviously up to him what he does with his money and connection (he obviously needs more than 1 I.P for his work I think) but I just can't fathom paying more than double for a connection that works no different from mine. He could argue that he's on double the speed but that's through a trial and BT users will be getting those speeds soon anyway.

Im thinking of joining BT Infinity. Well imgoing to got another 28 days before i can leave Virgin.

any pro's and Cons? Any help/advise will be nice. Eg: Torrent, traffic management etc...

Infinity is great, just get a newsgroup account and your sorted :)

Torrents are throttled in the evenings sometimes, depending on traffic.

It depends what you use it for. I don't use torrents but they are throttled on Infinity as far as I know. Gaming, newsgroups, iPlayer, sky Go, and other streaming is all fine 24/7 for me.

I can't fault it.

I do use torrents every now and then. But yea for me its Gaming, Iplayer, Youtube, Browsing downloading etc...

The P2P upstream shaping on Infinity can be nasty. I manage a couple of Infinity connections and the severity of the shaping does vary.. I doubt that I'd be able to push >2TB a month like I do with my Zen connection.

Do I want to force encryption? No.
Do I want to use a VPN? No.

I was paying £50 per month in 2000 for 512Kb/s ADSL. £78 is nothing.

£78 is extremely expensive for home broadband lol. Well for me anyway. The only difference being p2p is throttled. Who uses torrents nowadays anyway? The only reason people use p2p is 90% piracy tbh. Even then if you want something just download it out of the throttling hours, e.g. through the day or through the night.

Once your up and running (bar torrent throttling, if that's your thing, it doesn't bother me) its ace, but its getting there which is the headache IMO

BT ****ed up my package order (i now have seperate accounts for phone, tv and BBand :S ) - They ****ed up the swap over and connection. They ****ed up my install date, three times. It would have been more if i didn't chase and nag them constantly. And that's the second issue from me, their Customer Service sucks the wang - Indian call centres with operatives who cant understand more than basic english and your ****ed if it goes off script - your only chance is the slim chance of a UK call centre (their still crap, just not as crap as the Indian ones).

The Engineer who came to set up the Home Hub and Router was very very good - top chap infact and the product (*touches wood*) is fantastci, its just getting there :P

Sure, if you're on a budget. Who uses torrents? Oh, just a large percentage of the Internet. :)

I don't want to schedule my downloads. I want to download whatever I want whenever I want at maximum speed without any interference. :)

Anyone elses infinity gone major major slow??

Yup. Major packetloss at the moment. Looks to be resulting from a faulty BT router.
