BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Anyone having issues with watching Youtube vids? I have fantastic download speeds, low ping but when I try and watch a YT vid, it starts ok and then maybe 30 seconds into the video it stops playing and buffers for a few minutes, then starts playing again as if nothing had happened. Happens consistently in all browsers. Any ideas folks?

Are you with Plusnet by any chance? I'm having the same issue.

Right, my father ordered infinity and the HH5 arrives next week or so, he is infinity 1 so it will be a self install.
Do you have to plug the HH into the first phone socket that enters the house, or can you plug it into an extension line, and hardwire the computer to the HH?

Reason I ask, it my infinity2 was engineer done years ago, and I am fair certain he disconnected all the extension lines and installed some new master socket when he set it up.

My contract is nearly up and got the infinity 1 52mb for £10 offer. So £27ish for phone and 52mb + £6 to watch bt on sky doesn't seem to bad!

New AP means I can get all of my fibre speed over the wifi. Nice.

Fibre on Demand (FoD / FTTPoD)

As many of you may recall BTWholesale’s FoD service, which offers the potential for people within reach of an FTTC capable line to order a full ultrafast fibre optic (FTTP) broadband connection (provided you don’t mind paying for most of the often hugely expensive civil works), has been stalled on a “stop sell” for over a year because the service was too time consuming and expensive to install (here).

Since then Openreach has conducted a number of FoD2 trials, which have attempted to make the process of deploying the service faster and thus more cost effective. At this stage the service is still very expensive and not really intended for residential homes, but the improvements have been enough to get the “stop sell” lifted. According to BTWholesale, “Stop Sell lifted March 2016 following improvements in order handling and installation process.”

However the expected lead times for delivery have been extended. Otherwise it’s now down to ISPs with regards to whether or not they begin offering the service again.

Fibre on demand is available again. I wonder how many thousands it would be to upgrade my parents FTTC line :D?! The copper line is 1Km and on poles.

I'm not sure where my new house's cabinet is yet (might find it tonight) but I'm gonna guess it's not as close as my current cabinet, which is about a metre away. :p

I'll be giving sky a ring tomorrow about my line speed - 27mb with 6.0SNR and line attenuation of 21.5db.

I got a minimum guaranteed speed of 35mb when we took it out so guessing that there's a problem with Openreach's wiring (grey box outside on a brand new build).

Any knowledge of whether Sky will arrange for someone to come and take a look at the wiring, as there isn't a classic master socket?

The odd thing was that we had standard BB for a few weeks after moving in, and the DLM kept reducing the speed until it hit below 3mb, while it was perfectly stable at 9mb. The odd thing was that the SNR remained at 5-6db regardless of how low the downstream was reduced to, so I'm guessing there's something odd with the line.

Mine got activated yesterday I'm coming from 14mbs which droped to 4.4mb with no dial tone which I had since the sunday before bank holiday. Now I'm rocking 55down 10up which was on the extreme end of there estimates. For £10.99pm I'm pretty happy! :D

I'm having a nightmare at the moment. I've just moved into a house and the line was deactivated for a couple of months.. so it got reactivated but I keep being told "there is a technical issue at the exchange" and their go live date for broadband has been going back 1 day at a time each day for over a week.. now I'm told they will investigate further on the 27th... nearly a month after ordered... and likely that wont be the resolution...

Any idea what can cause such a large delay? From what was a previously working internet and phone line just weeks before?

I've never actually found a way of ordering it though even when it was available before the "stop sell".

I think you speak to your ISP as they'll have to liaise with Openreach to get a quote for replacing the final leg of copper from the cabinet to your address. I'm guessing £2,000+ for people who live close enough to the cabinet and ++++ for those like my parents who are 1Km away :o

Moving, booked a phone line install with PlusNet had to take standard Broadband due to a waiting list on the cabinet.

Checked again the day after, waiting list removed.

Cancelled first order and put in a new one for Fibre Extra.

Checked again today and the waiting list is back!

I'm in for a fun wait  To see if my order gets provided.
