I have a Draytek 2920n currently hooked up to a USB 3G and Draytek V120 DSL Modem for my rather slow ( <1mb) ADSL.

FTTC should be enabled by 31-12-11 according to Wholesale Checker and I am wondering if there is any need to use anything other than the supplied vDSL BT Modem in place of the V120. I will continue using the 2920n for the router.

Thanks in advance...

Just been doing some googling and it seems that Draytek have released an 'All-In-One' solution for the FTTC setup.

Draytek 2750n

It will replace the vDSL modem and the router.

Advantages???

- Less running costs
- One less hop for the connection?

Can anyone think of any dis advantages?

Anyone running this setup?

Regards,

Simpic

Lower running costs are probably negligible and 1 less hop is a moot point.
Less cabling and 1 less unit is a plus point in my eyes.

Disadvantage: if the unit dies it's the entire unit to replace - but this is the same risk 99.9+% of ADSL users face anyways... and of course the cost, and I doubt the Draytek is cheap!

VDSL modem comes with two lan ports, I have not tested the second. On the bottom you want it to have either a 2 or a 3, can't remember what letter it has with each.
From there its a rj45 link to your router, have fun :)

The 2B and 3B modems are fine just make sure he fits one of those. 2V and the origional revision that doesn't have a version number in bold letters are to be avoided.

LAN 2 is used to unlock the modem, then you can use it for local management, with LAN 1 still going to your firewall / router.

That Draytek 2750n is rather good as it has four gigabit ports, I'm after one, but at around £160.
Maybe in a few months I will get one, after my bank manager has recovered from what I've spent on pc's bits in the last 4 months.

Also, could unlocking it cause any issues with BT? For example, will they refuse to fix problems or diagnose the equipment due to warranty issues or whatever?
