My btinternet is running like treacle through toffee. I am supposed to be on 8meg service but it is only running at between 1.1 - 1.5 megs. I know that i am not supposed to get 8meg but its just terrible. It is also not working unless i pick up the phone then it re-connects.

What should i tell bt?

Are these crap stats?

Operation Data Upstream Downstream

Noise Margin 16 dB 0 dB

Attenuation 63 dB 63 dB

Attenuation is the loop loss on your line & yours is high which is bad
doubt you will ever get 2 meg let alone 8
SNR - noise margin - the higher the better ,yours is reasonable but needs to be higher to avoid line drops

Sounds like you might have faulty filter if picking up the phone makes it connect

0dB SNR margin is by no means reasonable.
Try with the modem connected to the master socket, and no extensions connected. If it's still the same, you've got a fault.

Looks like your on a long line, what router are you using and how fast is it connected? Everyone on bt seem to be having problems because of their traffic shaping!

tell me about it.

getting 60kb/s at the moment downloading updates for ubuntu. my connection is solidly synced at 8128/448kbps for weeks at a time but this http throttling is getting me down now. :(

Same problem! FTP seems the fastest and thats managing 150kb/s
Browsings such a bind now its this unresponsive, have to wait a good 5 seconds just to load google!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

So i phoned up and while on the phone it started working. They have put in a call to the engineers to look at the line. I am positive the line is outdated since an engineer said the equipment in the exchange was outdated and could not manage all the new users. The internet will properly switch itself off during the night or something. :(

Migrate to a different ISP mate. I was with BT for years and when I upgraded to MAX I was syncing at 8128kbps all the time, but as soon as BT changed their options around and made option 3 "unlimited" I started getting throttled on HTTP.
I was getting 50kbps all weekends, and weekdays after 4pm I was getting sometimes 20kbps...
Since moving to a different ISP I now have rock solid speeds.
