BT Internet, do they cap connections?

BT have been capping me during peak hours for the last 2 or 3 years, takes the **** TBH.

well you've only got yourself to blame for putting up with it. not even BT force you into contracts that long. :p

there are still a few good isps out there who can provide a decent service on a normal BT line. :)

as for the capping, it's purely random. it's been happening for years. they might apply it to some heavy users, but many light users are being hit with ridiculously poor service as well. yet others can download **** loads and be really happy with the service. it's basically russian roulette. not a nice game to play when you're paying the same money as everyone else.

...and this morning all is well?

why do so many people give BT business??! I can understand people who know absolutely nothing about it but I read people saying they have been with them for years and its been crap

Well personally I got broadband off them in 1999 (got in on the end of the testing - first person wired up on my exchange) and for many years I had a rock solid run with them, very low ping times, flat out speeds 24x7, almost no downtime... regular speed updates i.e. 0.5->1Mbit-2Mbit->max... as it started degrading towards the end of 2006/early 2007 we kinda stayed with them based on the past record hoping it was just a patch and things would be getting better... but its clearly getting worse every day that goes by... til now its got to the point that its about the equivalent of 3rd world broadband...

Unfortunatly when they changed me over to ADSL2+ someone put us on a new contract accidentally - but try explaining that to support :( but earliest possible moment we will be off.

sod that. complain to the top. they'll get it sorted for you. i had a problem getting my mac (silly ***** on phone flat out refused to give it to me ). so i emailed the CEO of bt retail and he passed it on to one of his flunkies. they were very apologetic and got it sorted. also got some M&S vouchers as compensation. :p

aye I wouldnt accept them "putting me on a contract accidently" :P companies like that always try to prevent people from leaving. FIGHT THEM! well maybe not that dramatically but ye :)
