BT ordered to block pirate links

everyone should ring the ISP's asking why web site X works on their friends computer but not theirs, repeat 10x a day x 500k customers and they will give in and allow access as its blocking their phone lines...

No they should not. They should block all pirate sites. This is a good move. I don#'t pirate so I think this is a good move.

Where does it stop though? Who decides what sites need to be censored? Will sites like youtube/facebook videos etc be next?

They won't unless they are making links available to download illegal material. Sites that are up distributing illegal materials will be blocked hopefully.

I thought everyone used nzbmatrix ?

Reported  ;)

Usual government giving up to the large corporations.

Agree with blairw - Dangerous road - first its "copyright theft" sites that are blocked, what next? - Won't be long till the internet is policed (defeating the whole purpose of it tbh!)

Whilst I agree with pirate sites being blocked (sorry file sharers), I do think it starts to set a dangerous precedent for the future of 'control' via the ISP's. File sharing sites cannot possibly vet every file that is uploaded to them, but they may get caught in the fall-out of this.

I await the results of the block rulling.

So who decided what should and shouldn't be blocked? Very dangerous road to be going down

Totally agree.

Indeed a very bad precedent and lets hope its not the norm. France has someone in the range of 18 million file shares according to the operators of Hadopi....

VPNs will start becoming very popular or sites will change their domain names which can be done far quicker than any court ruling

At the same time, the people behind these websites do tend to stay a step ahead, so something else will take over. Newsgroups have just kinda exploded over the last couple of years as P2P traffic begun to be throttled and the big court cases etc.

I cant see the ruling having much affect in the end, unless they are going to block news servers too. Newzbin is just one of many methods of grabbing NZB files.

I think this is against the freedom of information that we all should be entitled to. I don't condone piracy, but if you start to block certain things, then it's common sense to think that other things will start to get censored.

I do think some things need to be blocked, kiddy porn is a definite, but who or what can choose what the masses are allowed to access? I can potentially see BT loosing customers, not masses, only the ones that are aware of the sites and how to access them. VPN's, proxies and other methods will start to appear to get round this blocks.
