******* bt shaping torrents

Looks like ive been shaped now too,im also with BT :(

so what times are on and off peak hours ?

Same here.
I think judging by my traffic log its between 5 and 11, not totally 100% on that.
It shows definite drops during those time.
If I hadn't closed it down instead of minimizing it I would have put it up in here :o :o

Mine has suddenly gone faster when I just looked (23:30) so 11pm may well be the start of 'offpeak'.

On that note i noticed i was getting full speed around 5:30pm thursday afternoon then slowed right down to 20/30kbps around 6:05pm , possibly 6pm is the start of peak time ? or it could have been just a random event

I know, it's p****** me off too...

I have been with BT for as long as I can remember, and in the last few months my speeds have been capped to sometimes below 50kbps speeds in peak times. What really annoys me is, I barely download anything! So because of heavy download users, I now have a capped connection speed... I think that is completely unfair. Why don't they just target the heavy downloaders and leave their fair customers alone!
Right next to me I have a letter from BT reminding me that I am on option 3, and that I have "No download limits" - what utter crap!
I see a * next to "No download limits" and right at the bottom of the letter in tiny letters, it says "subject to fair usage policy".
I can't believe they can do this and get away with it, talk about false advertising.

I think I will probably leave BT because they are quite a bit more expensive than others anyway.

I'd been with BT since dial up days, and whilst they weren't the cheapest around I always felt I got value for money with good connection speeds and quality backup if needed.

I use the broadband for surfing and online gaming, not P2P or torrents so I wouldn't call myself a heavy user and was paying about £26 per month. In Late February I noticed my speed was being heavily throttled during the day/early evening, however would go back to normal between midnight and 6am. An example would be 6+ seconds to display the BBC Sport page!

I rang BT and to say their customer service were useless was an understatement. I spoke to them about traffic shaping which they claimed no knowledge of and kept trying to blame my network wiring, Trojans etc for the speed reduction.

So after spending hours upon hours on hold trying to get through to BT, I moved my Broadband and telephone to Sky as well as my mother and mother in-laws telephone services. Whilst it is much less per month, I get constant fast speeds throughout the day/night.

It's pretty poor that BT can't get their act together and as far as 'Do you know how much these things cost' and 'BT can't afford everyone to use their full bandwidth' I respond with.....If you happily take the money for a service you should be able to provide it.

Plus last time I looked BT's profits weren't doing too bad.

Anyway rant over

Jack.

first thing i noticed on my letter as well. it's a contradiction in terms isn't it... :p

i would have been much happier on my capped service downloading at full speed. luckily my non p2p speeds are fine and overall the service is ok. :)

exact the same problem here...

i use to get 150-200kbs a sec on download. been with BT since the start of my internet days,

but this what is going on right now.. is total *******.
50kbs a sec on download... MAX! during day and night...

im complaing next week. if no change, i will move and probably go for sky.
i would go NTL but we cant get cable.

im just mad at BT for capping there speeds, total utter ****.
they have very poor customer relations.

I think I might move to Sky too. I have Sky TV anyways, so it would probably be easier. Coolice you might want to edit out that swearing in your post btw.

Holy thread resurrection!

BT user here too, being throttled to hell and back.

It used to be so simple when I first got broadband, 2 Megs on Blueyonder uncapped, unthrottled, hell it was £40 but was so reliable and stable, worth every penny.

Not even encrypting torrents works anymore. :(

My parents were on BT and connected at about 7Mb. Their download speed was less than 512k from normal websites and P2P. They have now switched to Sky and pay only £5 per month for the same speed connection but a much faster download. Having said that the gaming pings are high on Sky but for normal web browsing they now find it fine.

It seems BT's traffic shaping experiments are not going well.
