Spotted this yesterday and a quick heads up for those that haven't noticed.

For the last 2 years, BT has given BT Broadband users free access to BT Sport as part of the package.

You had to request it and it was added to your package as a freebie.

Well in August they decided to charge for it and I am not sure if they did or did not send out letters. I probably binned it if they did as I get so much junk from BT.

So if you ignored the letter or were unware of the change, you are being billed £6.75 + vat per month for BT Sports even if you only tried it once years ago like me.

On the plus side, I re-signed for another 2 years on my BT Affinity contract and saved myself an extra £11 a month :)

i noticed i was being charged when i got my bill in september.. phoned them straight up and demanded they gave me my money back (which they did) as they didnt notify me about the changes, they were charging me £5 inc VAT pm

Yes, I got a letter about it and opted out online.

Don't think that's the correct way to go about it, but there you go.

No letter for me but noticed the charge immediately. Requested a refund and they only gave me a pro-rata one, even though they could see I had never accessed the service.

Even after I cancelled they still charged me, but I called them up and they did refund it to be fair.

AFAIK if you're "in contract" it's free. They only charge when you're on a rolling contract.

I had an email giving me loads of notice, with a link to cancel the sports package if I wanted. It wasn't hidden away... it was the whole point of the email, iirc.

I never got one unless it was spam email by gmail.

I have also noticed that BT's letters / advertising has big slice of scaremongering about them when they communicate as if you about products to make you do something.

I only noticed yesterday when the letter told me (2 months after the change) that I no longer had BT Broadband (I do) and hence no longer had BT Sports (I was being charged) and that they could set me a new contract up (which I didn't need).

Oh well, all sorted now and a heads up for those who may need to check.

They have to make money back somehow after spending utterly stupid amounts of money on getting all the live Champions league packages from Sky and Itv. :p
Having already got the full sky package there is no way I would pay any extra for BT Sport it's rubbish and they have the worst commentator's on the planet.

I checked it out when it 1st launched 2 years ago. I spent 10 minutes watching it and looking at the listings and gave it up as rubbish. So I was quite surprised 2 years later to see I was being charged for it without my knowledge. because they decided to in August.

I got stung for this. To be fair they probably sent me some gumph on it, but I just threw it away.

I argued and argued they didnt and after about 20 minutes they agreed to refund it.

Yup, got charged 2 months, I never received the email above. Called them up, complained and got both months refunded. I don't use BT Sport.

Then I asked if we could discuss the amount I'm paying each month, maybe reduce it a bit (you know like a lot of other broadband suppliers will do if you've been a customer for a while). Absolutely not, can't do that as I'm mid-contract apparently. But they can start charging me BT Sport mid-contract? Funny that.

I'm getting BT Sport Lite which is still free for me until November 10th.
So in a week or so I'll give BT a call and ask them about discounts for next year - as BT Sports Lite remains free so long as I'm "in contract" on broadband.
No offers available and I'll make sure they remove BT Sports before the 10th of November so that I don't pay for it.

Same, I remember the email clearly saying they were going to start charging.
